I see the IL's all dialogue getting skipped instantly how? like i press the shortcut literally wont skip dialogue

I am not sure, when I was a kid , I would just hold the ENTER key and it would skip everything! Nowadays I play the game on the steam version and I am not able to do it anymore. I assume that the steam version "corrected" this "bug" but I am not sure if that's the reason.
