My world record run for The Island was declined by Be_A_Maverick due to the fact that I used the ghost command to escape being permanently stuck inside of a rock. He claims that I should have used a pick to break it but that's not possible as I didn't have anything on me at the time and couldn't escape the rock to make a pick in order to break the rock I was stuck inside of.
If you don't mind, I would like if the mods take another look at the run.
from the rules:
- Due to the nature of the game dinos getting permanently stuck in certain areas, cheats are only permitted on a case by case basis to get a dinos unstuck. For example, if your dino fall through the mesh you can use "ghost", "fly" and "walk" cheat commands to get them back. If you (or your dino) get stuck not under the mesh and cannot get out, but game have some mechanics that can solve this problem, then using any cheat commands not allowed (for example, you fell into a hole, you cannot move, but you do not have crossbow with grappling hooks, it's your problem).
the rules are clear here and i talked with @Bishokukai about my concerns with your run and showed him the same video
now to your statement:
but that's not possible as I didn't have anything on me at the time and couldn't escape the rock to make a pick in order to break the rock I was stuck inside of. <<
so you didn't picked up your corpse at 58:07 with a stone pick (~20% durability) and a stone hatchet (~60% durability) in it? then tell me why you have at 1:09:25 (the moment you get stuck) both tools in your hot bar (stone pick on 1 and stone hatchet on 2)?
at 1:09:47 you used ghost to get out and a few seconds later (~5s) at 1:09:52 2 allos are rushing towards you, i doubt that you would survived this attack, without the usage of ghost.
I didn't use the command in Tek Cave. I considered using it there but I managed to escape. I used it during Snow Cave after I had meshed and had no items on me. I'm sorry that you got confused as to what I said.
Be a maverick at tek cave first it is very obvious that you did not watch the video. The animal attacking her is called a terror bird. Also it is very obvious that is her twitch chat and someone suggested ghost. She would have had to also use walk which is never used. She made it out of the rock without using ghost (I know I was there for the entire run).
Maverick. It is clear that you didn't watch this run. She didn't ghost in tek cave, she ghosted in ice cave. She got stuck in tek cave but never actually went through with using ghost as she was able to knock herself out. A viewer was talking in chat and said "ghosty" at 1:09:45-1:09:50. Maverick this run is valid and this proves that you didn't actually watch the run. At 42:08 she DOESNT have a pick. The rule of "it's your problem" seems unfair due to the nature of ark. This particular mesh is unpredictable and the rules are unclear as to when you can and cannot ghost out. You can argue about this me as much as you want, feel free to dm me but seriously this is not fair especially since you were just complaining about rng for CI runs and Extinction runs. This is an rng case, that rock happened to be there. This is not her fault since this has never happened to her before so she would not have any idea that this would have happened.
The time at which I get stuck and am forced to use ghost is at 42:08 during Snow Cave. During Tek Cave I did get temporarily stuck but after a moment I managed to crouch to escape. I was moved away from the attacking allos when I was attacked by a Kaprosuchus and then got stuck while being attacked by Terror Birds but whistled my wolves to attack them and they got there just in time. Then I managed to escape. It does appear that I used the command because of my chat suggesting that I ghost but even then I manage to land on the ground fast enough for it to have not been possible for me to both type ghost and walk while also walking out of the rock.
I can see how this may look suspicious at a glance but if you actually checked it you would know that there was no problem or commands used there.
with regard to the tek cave she clearly did not use ghost for the reasons everyone else said watch in .5 speed. and with regard to the ice cave and using fly to get out the rules clearly state "If you (or your dino) get stuck not under the mesh and cannot get out, but game have some mechanics that can solve this problem, then using any cheat commands not allowed (for example, you fell into a hole, you cannot move, but you do not have crossbow with grappling hooks, it's your problem)" specificly NOT UNDER THE MESH which in the case she got stuck under the mesh of the rock so I believe what she did aligned with the rules.
i did watch the run and she wrote in the description of the run the usage of ghost (it wasn't clear out of the description where she used the ghost commands), so i thought in both cases she used ghost (my fault). I didn't wrote about ice cave cause the ghost usage there is definitely discuss able and the situation in tek cave looked much more suspicious in my eyes.
"as for it wasn't seen that she used the command" if you macro commands (which some already did in previous runs to spawn artifacts) you can use commands without showing the command, if you tweak your macro more the console won't show up at all.
now back to the meshing / ghosting in ice cave. as far as i know no one ever used a meshing method during a run (but i didn't watched every run on the leaderboards so maybe i missed that). here is my problem with meshing at all. first meshing is totally not intended by wildcard so you can not expect to work perfect, more so you are intentionally breaking the games boundries.
next i would like to see how to actually perform this method at this spot (where to place the sleeping bag exactly and what it should look like if you are mesh spawning), after that i will do some testings myself at this spot.
how ever for meshing over all i would say: high risk high reward
I can make a video that goes over exactly how you do the mesh and thanks to Den we now have newer meshes. I can go over all of them in a single video. Alternatively, the mesh I used during the run is right there and you can see how it is done. You just have to keep in mind that it only works if you are in 3rd person camera instead of 1st.
In the mean time though, thank you.
what i am really interested in is the exact position of the sleeping bag (use orbit cam to show it), cause i think the position of the sleeping bag is very important to perform this method
It's really late here so I can definitely get you a video or some images of that tomorrow. One thing to note though is that the exact position of the bag does not matter as the ledge that you can place the bag on is massive. It's easiest to just crouch, go into 3rd person, and then slowly turn to your right until it says you can't place the bag there, then place it in the last possible place that you were allowed to.
I'll get a video with the orbit cam to you tomorrow though, hopefully. Keep in mind that we won't really be using that specific mesh anymore since we have a few new, better ones that Den discovered.
