Does the new event choices system slow down the speedruns?

If so, I can make a new version to submit to. All existing runs, including ones currently in the verification queue, will be placed under a label indicating the run was done on a version up to and including the Twitch Integration Update (version 0.46.3R).

Apologies for the long verification queue/wait times, too. I'm working through it! Things are more uplifting in my neck of the woods, so I've got more executive function to take care of moderation. Thanks for your patience!

Hey people, I have been meaning to write a reply to this for a while.

There are a couple of reasons why I think that changing to two different versions won't be worthwhile.

The very first reason is because while the tool strategy has slightly changed, it is still very possible. Chests still need tools to open, people still get reputation via resolve. Yes, it is true that a higher number of events contain solutions that aren't as simple as "Dump tools/resolve/etc", but there are essentially a limited amount of event types that cover the event space and that complement each other well. There's events that reward you scrolls and incense, that you later use to solve other events. Furthermore, staples like Trade Hub still work the same, but now you can just break chests with stone to get things to sell. It wont be just tool focused anymore, but I imagine that as long as you run a stone camp and maybe a way to make provisions, you're fine, even more so if you play in biomes with sea marrow, where you have stone and a way to run events faster all from one camp.

The second reason is that the patch made other aspects of the game a bit easier. With the longer wait times until you get negative effects from events, you have way more leeway in higher difficulty levels. Foxes furthermore now mean that you can run events faster by default. Lizards now come with tools. I imagine future speedruns will essentially be fox/harpy/lizard.

As a third note to that, there will be more changes in that vein. The game is in early access, and there will be more changes in the future. I imagine that having a 1.0 onwards category will be a good idea, but for now, letting it stick should be fine.

And as a last note, I do not think my speedruns are optimal. I have seen them and I think you can shave a minute or two from each just playing the same strat more times. As a thresshold, you can win the game year 1 in settler. If you start at 3x from second 1 of the game, that means you can win the game at 3 mins and a half, cutting my settler time in half. Someone dedicated enough could pull it off.

So my final theory is that the game is very much runneable at similar, if not faster times, and that we should wait for 1.0 to do a split.

Heya speedy Viceroys!

I've started a couple of threads in the forum (though you're all welcome to make some threads there, too, if you have ideas on how to improve the boards!) regarding the most recent update and some new category ideas I've had suggested to me and some I came up with myself.
