We are very stringent with our measures in terms of allowing emulators on the boards, especially for main series games like rac1, going commando, and up your arsenal. It was a tooth and nail effort to accurately prove that the emulator was good enough for Size Matters and Secret Agent Clank because we had to do a practical full game load analysis between PPSSPP and an actual console. The only way PCSX2/RPCS3 would be implemented, the way I see it, is if the emulator becomes practically console accurate in terms of performance and if there were very strict limits on what you can do on the emulator itself. Since PCSX2/RPCS3 is a lot easier to load and utilize Tool-Assisted scripts compared to PPSSPP, making sections of the game that would typically be rough on a beginner (e.g. sinaflips on Rilgar) a breeze. Allowing emulator adds a whole new dynamic, and in it's implementation it needs to be raised alongside extremely strict rules and regulations to make any emulator run even remotely legit for og trilogy games.

I feel like it should be allowed tbh. The faster, the better for runs. Is the glitch consistent, and do you have a video demonstrating how to activate it?

[UYA] Semi-Consistent Florana Qwark warp (PS3 NG+) [UYA] Consistent Florana Qwark warp (PS3 NG+)

These are two videos on the topic of Qwark Warp, found in the Ratchet Community Discord's resources text channel

essentially, you die on Veldin and generally you get warped straight to Qwark. This can only be done on the PS3 version of the game.

Why would the skips be banned in an any% run? does it involve some form of outside file manipulation? I fully understand and support the ban on cheats and mods as well as keeping the dev console off, but it doesn't really seem right that banning skips would occur in the Any% category of a game while having the left in for Any% Veteran, or at least not having a category split beforehand.

"Beat the game from a fresh NG+ (Challenge Mode) file. Timing begins when you gain control of Ratchet. Timing ends on final input to press the final button after Drek. The final button must be pushed to trigger the end game cutscenes in order for the run to be valid."

This is for timing and level select. A NG+ file is a file that allows you to have all the weapons, gold bolts, skill points, and the like. This can be created by defeating Drek and entering Challenge Mode after watching the ending cutscenes. Timing starts when you gain control of ratchet. if you are using digital HDD PS3, you can set your livesplit timer to start at -3.7 seconds, and start the timer once you press O to load your file. for digital SSD PS3, -3.3 seconds. This negative number fluctuates between your console, hardware device, and method of playing (digital or a physical disc) Timing stops once you perform your final input when you press the button after Drek. This means you end your timer once you ground pound into the button after defeating Drek. Your run will be invalidated if you don't press the button and trigger the ending cutscene.

"When making the save you may only pre-select what two weapons you have out at the start instead of the wrench as well as your quick select layout. Deplanetizer glitch is allowed."

This essentially means you can pre-select weapons before the run starts, so you don't have to waste time pulling out any weapons. Generally, you want the Walloper out as a primary and the RYNO as your secondary. The Deplanetizer glitch is a type of file manipulation that allows you to skip Drek entirely. This video demonstrates the first time it was used in runs and in the description is how you set your file up to be able to perform this glitch. This is not allowed in Any% or All Gold Bolts.

"Note: When submitting runs, please do not include milliseconds in your time. That slot exists solely for Hoverboard Race submissions."

When submitting your run, just enter the time up to the seconds. Let's say you got a "25:43.78" in Livesplit for your run, you'll only enter on your submission "25:43." We allow millisecond times when you do Individual Level runs such as the Hoverboard races on Rilgar and Kalebo III

"Frame by frame timing: Timing starts the first frame where the game is visible after the initial load, and ends on the frame you can see the fire from the thrusterpack upon pressing the final button on Drek"

This part is generally irrelevant for casual runners. This just explains how you time your run in the event you don't use Livesplit or your timer started early/late or your timer ended late/early or even both.

"For runs completed on PS2, leave the "Hard Drive Type" option as "-""

We've recently added a Harddisk Type option to the leaderboards as in light of the recent acceptance of SSD PS3s. If you run the game on PS2, just keep the hard drive type as the hyphen.

hope this helped!! happy running! :D

From my testing, 1.5.4. works completely fine. Just as well as 1.4.2. In fact the current ng+ record was done on 1.5.4, so go ahead my guy. if you ever have any questions about the run or emulator question, feel free to hit up the ratchet and clank community discord or continue the questions here :>

United Statesweezlwoo6 years ago

yes you can!, you'd just have to submit the time to the leaderboards, make sure you submit this under "NG+ Packless" so you don't have your time mixed up with the regular NG+ category :> once submitted, a moderator will verify your run and it'll be on the leaderboards for the whole world to see!

ok, so the console version is unoptimal in a manipulation sense. how much time would that lose?

I know loads are a problem but loadless already seems to be in place. Is there any movement tech/skips you perform on PC not present on the console variants, or have these versions not been fully flushed out and tested?

here is the load comparison video for the boyz

Insta, you save/load on Quodrona ATB, Dayni Moon ATB, Kalidon ATB, Dreamtime ATB, and various points during 100%. PSP emulated menuing is instantaneous while the game loads about like a normal psp digital copy. you'd gain about 2-3ish seconds with emu s/l but lose it again to a slower ship loading segment.

i'll run load tests on all the planets soon on all the planets with a ng+ file. i'll report back with the numbers. if they're in a good margin of error it should be good enough to have it unbanned.

United Statesweezlwoo6 years ago

So like........ I've done a run of ATB with a decent-ish time.

United Statesweezlwoo6 years ago

if you used mp_restartgame 1, that happens. I learned that when i was trying to find a faster way to reset.

Alrighty, thank you for the response. I'll give it a try whenever I get the Go.

I'm looking to invest in a PSP Go to replace my PSP 2000 for both speedrunning and casual emulation on the go. I was wondering if the downloadable version of Size Matters has any impact on speed over the UMD or if it's even allowed to be used during runs.
