You can speedrun this game on GBA, but it's a different leaderboards. Go here: https://www.speedrun.com/alttpgba

So I was interested in picking up UN Squadron as a speedgame, just from having a blast playing the game casually. And in that regard I was messing a bit with disassembling the game etc. Ended up making a practice hack.

You can find it and download the .sfc file on https://milde.no/public/uns/.

It might only work on sd2snes, I haven't tested on anything else yet.

Features:

  • Select+L = Save state (on sd2snes only)
  • Select+R = Load state (on sd2snes only)
  • Hold AX on ctrl 2 to select any mission, ship or equipment.
  • Hold dpad left & press Select on ctrl 2 to get invulnerable during a mission.
  • Hold L on ctrl 2 for slowdown
  • Hold R on ctrl 2 for pause

Everything but the manual save states was coded into the game already, and used by the developers, but obviously removed before release.

Hey - may I ask what kind of dosbox settings you use @unspentskillpoints? Depending on the "cycles" settings, the "Fastest speed" feature in this game will differ. Loading time between screens will too. I'm assuming it's 3000 since it looks like that, and I think that's the default too.

Also, would rebinding keys be allowed do you think? F1-F12 has to be the most horrible keybindings in gaming. :)

even with runner’s agreement

He explicitly said that he does not want his runs on src yesterday.

Knowing how far up his asshole you've crawled the past couple weeks, I do wonder what your current stance is on the matter. Is wq wrong? Should we say "f your opinion wq, this is a lbs, and my opinion is so f good compared with other's so we should add it!"? This must surely be a big dilemma for you.

Mod’s opinion

Yeah they literally said that within 5 minutes of you asking this 2 weeks ago.

I think a better way to think about it is that major glitches allows the player to enter the triforce screen without having killed all the bosses and collected all pendants and crystals. If we find a way to kill Trinexx without ice rod, I assume this would be allowed in NMG categories, as long as the same glitch can't be used to skip doing dungeons or killing bosses.

Dear Director of Operations of ZeldaSpeedRuns,

Please delete this thread.

Sincerely, Everyone in the community you are meddling with.

@timxtim Are you talking about chest turns? This is achieved by pressing down, left or right on the same frame that you open the chest. It loses time unless you can do it without any delay, and it's hard to do consistently. It's basically 100% swag. :)

There's a weirdity with the overworld state you have before saving zelda when getting the mirror from the old man, that makes the game softlock like that.

Some people say this is due to the "arc variable" (), but what's for sure is that it's fixed by simply visiting armos (ice armos and some other bosses works too) first. This can be done before the run starts.

Here's a video showing a fast way to set this up: . You want to Save & Quit when the variable is set to 64 - this makes sure Ganon bats spawns in a consistent pattern.

This only needs to be done once per power-on.

For the red rupees, I don't quite remember, but I think you want to kill 4 enemies in a row, without taking damage, before you start the run. This ensures you'll get red rupees from pulling the painting, given you don't take any damage during the run either.

But there's a very recent development here. Instead of doing paining + basement for rupee route, you want to enter the house in Kakariko that contains 300 rupees, and mirror on the same frame you enter. This puts you into Super Bunny state, which allows the bunny to open the chest with 300 rupees - enough for the entire run. This saves at least 30-40s and was found yesterday. :)

Hi, could you change my username to poor_little_pinkus please?

@Yngwe82 check out Andy's profile. The Video URL might not work due to a twitch change, he probably has it highlighted at his profile, though. Also, there should be plenty runs of that category with input display on (since most of them are done on emulator due to how bufferless clips are much easier on a keyboard).

@Tyloxs You can submit new runs as you improve at the game, and they will override the last runs (and give you a better leaderboards placement). The nice thing about submitting them all is to see the history over time in a year or two. :-)
