Please, some moderator take a look at this issue.
There are games that have hardcoded fps cap. One example I remember at the moment is Doom (2016) that caps it at 200 no matter if you force vsync off. There's also Bejeweled 3 where is hardcoded to cap at 100 fps.
Vsync is a feature like variable resolution or variable framerate. On PC games you can choose what you want. If you watch the video I posted above you'll see why Vsync is undesirable in a high performance gameplay.
In the cases where high FPS breaks everything in a detrimental way it doesn't make sense to have it uncapped. Banning it from the start with the reasoning "Devs don't intended that way" doesn't make any sense.
It's not hard capped. If it was hardcapped you wouldn't be able to force v-sync off and play with uncapped framerate.
Just because developers intended a certain way to play the game it doesn't mean that it's the way you should play it. That's the purpose of speedrunning for the most part.
What is the reason then?
Since capping the PC version at the level of console versions is done without reasoning, why not create this random category? That's why he has a fair point.
I'm under the impression that it has been patched, nobody on console has done it since the latest updates and such
Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems that it was patched.
** The collision for the rotisseries in Hog Wild was fixed, making the third one easier to jump over **
Steam is unreliable with many users been uses external tools or other methods
PC version of any game will always be superior and more consistent. External tools can be used in any platform. What you mean with "other methods"?
So could you please ban that teleport glitch from the leaderboards.
I agree, the glitch doesn't exist anymore so all runs in the older patch should be obsoleted and put in another category. For example, "Old patch any%"
But here is another proof that PC is widely superior. You can downpatch on PC, so IT IS the fastest version to run this game by far since old patches are more likely to have more glitches (not always useful, but you'll never know if you don't try).
"Frames per second (FPS) must be capped at 60 for PC. For that purpose, an FPS counter has to be clearly visible the whole time - you for example can use the Steam internal FPS counter. Any PC submissions that exceed 60 FPS or do not have an FPS counter in the video will be rejected"
This is not Any%. OP has a fair point.
I'm just being a douche here. It's too ironic to let it pass.
You can only find new glitches using a certain condition if this said condition is not prohibited in speedrunning. Most people are more concerned in getting better times than hunting glitches so the probability is that it will take some time until someone decides to go against the rules and start finding things.
When I see the an answer like "nah", I already know the community is ran by people who think they're better than everyone else. Hopefully someone will break this game and show how stupid this current restriction is.
Hello, I happened to want to look at this leaderboard due to a run I saw on the home page. The first thing that caught my attention was that the run had a fps counter and I quickly assumed that this game was very broken when it runs over 60fps.
After coming to this thread and seeing that the only reason it's not used is "to ensure fair competition", it seemed quite silly to me because you're not only making the PC version being limited by PS4 version but also you're limiting the potential benefits in terms of strats this game may have with an unlocked FPS. This argument also doesn't stand when we keep going with it, as in: "I don't have a PS4, so to ensure fair competition, no one should run on PS4".
I run/used to run a few games in which high fps is beneficial to some strats and sometimes it makes a difference between being able to speedrun or not. So, my suggestion as an outsider would be a separation from PS4 and PC runs in different categories because the PC version with a capped fps is not really "Any%".
Yes, for legacy reasons, many other leaderboards do this when a runner is recognized in the past
I can confirm this, he had a video of the run, otherwise I wouldn't have verified. For some reason it's gone now.
@ZenicReverie we're talking about tens of thousands of dollars kept in escrow over years. This not only raises risk of everything being stolen but also could have legal implications. It's not easy to implement as the idea makes it sound.
@zewing centralizing the money custody is a horrible idea, someone will steal it sooner or later.
Instead, I propose that if the bounty creator doesn't pay, he/she will get their account banned in speedrun.com.
The bounty for glitches is very straight forward. The bounty hunter should provide video proof and consistency on the proposed glitch/skip and it should be replicable by community members. No way to cheat that.
The bounty for WRs is very tricky. Some sort of verication with set video quality standards like Speed Demos Archive had should be implemented. But even then it's possible to cheat. Is it a bounty for WR really a risk worth taking?
Not invalid, just not verifiable to the hundredth of a second.
