You can sort the games by number of active runners

On the game's main page, click the "Edit Game" link at the bottom of the infobox on the left. On that page, click on the far right tab labeled "Variables". Click on "New Variable" and label it something appropriate- "Version", "Platform". Click "New Value" and add each of the possibilities: "Emulator" and "Console", and any others, and click the checkbox next to the one you want to be the default. Save the changes and give the page a minute or two to update. You'll have to go through and resubmit the times for the games that aren't what you chose as the default and select the correct version. It's a bit of a pain to resubmit every single one, but at least you only have to do it once.

So I actually watched the video to understand context. It's not about actual number of games played; what he means by saying "play 2 games" is to not spread yourself too thin. When you're new to speedrunning and haven't really found your niche yet, there's this tendency to think "oh I wanna speedrun this and this and that one looks cool too!", etc. There may be a whole list of games you're interested in, but you have to narrow it down and focus your attention on one or you won't get good at any of them anytime soon. He advises choosing two for the reasons listed above- burnout, frustration, bad string of rng, etc- so you have another project to work on when the first stops being fun. That's not saying you can't branch out over time, but this video is intended for people new to speedrunning.

Some games have ledges that extend farther than what the visual ledge implies, so you can run past the ledge a little without falling. To us old people, it looks like a certain coyote from old cartoons. Basically, gravity doesn't apply to the coyote when he leaves the ledge, but later when he realizes it.

I have to keep reminding myself that these things aren't common knowledge. Then I feel old.

I want to submit a game that was released under a different title in Europe and US. How is this normally handled? Which name do I use and how can I make sure anyone interested can find it? It’s not obvious that there are multiple titles.

I’ve been playing it for a long time and only recently realized another title even exists, but I want people who aren’t aware of both titles to be able to find it by searching either name. The game is called “Ace golf” in Europe and “Swingerz golf” in US (plus obligatory JP title which is supported here)

I have the US release, but I can’t find any substantial difference between my copy and online videos of the EU version. However, the title names aren’t very similar- besides including the sport- so anyone looking the game up by one name may not necessarily know that the other name exists.

Honestly, I’d like to know why it doesn’t make sense. What was the reasoning behind the original question?

Meta gaming is so common here that we forget it’s not necessarily as obvious outside this community. I’d like to hear op elaborate.. unless it was just a troll post.

Armorines is just one of a whole bunch of N64 titles that don't have submissions:

Is there a max amount of money you can hold?

Texas, USAoddtom4 years ago

DId you happen to take any notes on how many crystals per stage or how many stages total there are?

Texas, USAoddtom4 years ago

“450 Crystals” would be my suggestion.

Dosbox just be that way sometimes.

That app is great! Do you have it hosted anywhere or is it just local?

@Admiral_Flapjack He’s the one that found her 😉

Some answers:

  • In Cove, there are many more possible treasures than Loops to get 100%. I’m sure they didn’t expect kids to get every gem or crystal every round
  • In the other games, number of collectibles per level is determined by rank, which is either determined by total score or number of items collected, depending on the game.
  • If prices and starbuck rewards really do drop later in the game, the best 100% strat would be to play the first round calendar game until you have enough money to buy digits the rest of the game. Might bring it below 8.5 hours

Very nice run.. and commentary. Especially about Frederick the Frog and his pants.

I don't know this game as well as I used to, but each of the games in the Treasure series here does it a little bit different. As far as I'm aware, you can't abuse game mechanics to skip the puzzles like you can in Treasure Mountain or Cove- you have to do four puzzles to get the digits. Those are also the only two that have 100% / Max Rank runs for the same reason. I've attempted two Treasure Cove 100% runs, and the repetition is so exhausting.

In case you're not familiar with the other Treasure games, Treasure MathStorm is probably the most similar to this one. There are only two categories over there- one for a single loop and one for a single loop with all the collectibles (crystals in this game) The menuing is kind of a pain in Treasure Cove, Gizmos, and Operation Neptune too, but at least you only have to do it once.

You can play a lot of older PC games here, but you'll have to search for them yourself

If you can finish it in one sitting, you can speedrun it.
