If you're looking at getting into speedrunning with a W&W game I'd really recommend starting with the first game any%. It's got infinite continues, almost all terrible RNG is in the first level, and there's some good video guides from DarkTerrex.

Ironsword isn't toooo bad for the first three worlds. The glitches are relatively easy and the route is simple. The problem is the last few stages you lose all continues and some monsters can basically one shot you. Also the last boss is a real runkiller.

I've updated the rules to allow Evercade and Evercade VS as an allowed emulator since Doodle World has an official release there.

If there turns out to be a lot of interest and it's found to be sufficiently different from NES timing we can make it a separate category.

Good luck runners!

Hi all, here are some links on how you can get your very own copy of Doodle World!

If you're interested in a rom to run on a flash cart or emulator you can get it here: https://natepeters.itch.io/doodle-world

If you'd like to get a physical cart to run on your NES you can buy it here: https://doodleworldgame.com/shop/

Doodle World is also available in the Indy Heroes Collection 1 cartridge for the Evercade https://evercade.info/evercade-indie-heroes-1/ Where to buy: https://evercade.info/where-to-buy/

Hey Valcore, I'm updating the rules to be more specific and inline with other NES games. I'm really really sorry for the ambiguity earlier. I'm going to be copying the emulator rules from high profile NES boards like Castlevania and Mario. Unfortunately Retroarch and 2ds won't qualify.

Again I apologize for wasting your time on that subject before

Oh to clarify, I'm expecting to see lag since that occurs on an NES cart running on an actual NES. The issue would be if you DIDN'T see lag.

The TNT boss has performance problems on NES too

I took a look at the link you sent me, it seems like it's probably fine but could you test something for me quick before I give the ok though? If you run through the game do you get lag when there's a lot (4+) of sprites on the screen like this (like test this exact screen if you could) It's stage 1 of Crystal Crayon Caves

It's about 1m02s in the video if the link doesn't work

Hi Valcore, I'm glad you're interested in running the game!

It depends on the accuracy of the emulator. I know that virtual console is generally accepted on official releases but I'm having trouble finding anything online that shows the accuracy of custom roms. Do you know of a source?

If the emulator accuracy is ok then all that matters is that the gameplay and timer are clearly visible in the recording

Yeah Cave Story is perfectly fine! We've had pretty modern stuff in previous marathons too

In regards to the question about when submissions close it's usually 2 weeks before the marathon

Hello, I am a speedrunner/mod for W&W3 trying to create a multigame entry for Wizards & Warriors on SRC in the same vein as other multigames that exist on the site (Example: Multiple Classic Mario Games: https://www.speedrun.com/mcmg )

I'm making this post because the SRC Admins would like me to get approval from a mod from each game in the series before my multigame can be created. I already have a mod from Wizards & Warriors X on board, and I mod W&W3 so I just need approval from one mod from here, and one mod from W&W1.

You wouldn't have to do anything with the multigame if you didn't want to, but if at least one of you would be ok with this multigame existing could you please respond here or send me a PM? You can reach me here:

Thanks, and have a good day!

Thanks a ton for the response and information! I have already joined the mod team on one game and will work on getting approval from the active mods for the other games before I submit again

Thanks again and have a good day

Hi all,

I was recently rejected for requesting a multigame because I don't mod any games in the series and that's fair.

My main question is how many games do I have to be mod of to submit a multigame? For example, the series I'm interested in has 4 games. Would I need to be mod of all 4 before I submit again?

I think I just found a way to the bad Wizard 3 jump consistently! My problem was that the amount of speed or distance from my jump would vary and I'd fall.

What I found was the extra platforms on the bottom seem to be introducing some lag. If the three at the bottom (See image below) disappear, the jumping physics become much more manageable!

So the trick seems to be just waiting on platform 4 and jumping as soon as there's only 2 platforms on the screen

Sounds good, I'm fine either way as long as we're all on the same page. I agree about the progression aspect too

Nice Find! I did a little testing and it looks like levitating up is definitely faster if you're coming up from the secret passage in the double bee house.

I did each way 5 times and my fastest time for outside the palace was 21.62s and the fastest time inside the palace through the blocks was 20.08

I tested by starting in the secret passage room door way (The last part, the blue room with the fireplace) as Thief3, then opening the door, going into the palace and climbing up as fast as I could. Both routes involve the same number of costume changes since they both require levitate and thief3 to open a door. The time difference seems to be coming from having to go through two extra doorways to do the traditional route outside the palace.

The question comes in though, is this method allowed in a glitchless run?

Ah so I am definitely buying too many keys. I usually buy a few extra just in case I mess up later and end up at a door in the wrong costume

Too bad about 14 keys though.. if it was 13 you could skip a whole trip to the shop. Right now I buy 2 before thief 1, then 11 after thief 1. I get the remainder after the Gold Thief statue guardian since I often have to heal anyway

I wonder if it'd be feasible to get enough money before the second shop visit to get 12 keys instead of 11

Oh yeah that's a tough call for sure. Whichever way you go with it is cool, trying to find a recording of the jump but I think I know the guy you're talking about.

Thanks so much for adding the category :)

Iowa, USAmarquisdan5 years ago

Awesome, thanks so much for the quick response xJackieBx! I have a day off work on the 18th and am planning on running this game all day to see if I can get a time in. Hopefully I will have a submission in that day!

Thanks again!

Hi all! I am interested in doing a glitchless run (No skips at all, actually fighting Malkil)

Would it be possible to add a category for that?

My ideas for rules would be like this:

  • Player must find all 9 guild statues
  • Player must complete all 9 guilds
  • Player must find all 4 gems
  • Player must defeat Malkil
  • No skips of any kind allowed (Beehives, guardian etc must be bypassed using the intended tools and not despawning or damage boost etc)
  • Malkil must be defeated by dropping his health to zero with attacks. No glitches can be used to skip the fight.
  • Timing begins as soon as you can begin moving Kuros; time ends when you can no longer manipulate Kuros' movement after defeating Malkil

If it's not possible or desirable to add a new category I understand and will add my run to the normal all guilds% category

Thanks,
