Hey there! Sorry for the delay, there are multiple runners waiting on verification. I verify them in the order of date submitted, I'll get to your submissions as soon as I get through the ones before you. Thanks for understanding!

Hello fellow runners! Aliens Fireteam Elite now has it's very own Speedrunning Discord made for the community! Feel free to join us to discuss strategies, group up for coop runs or just hang out! This will now be our main platform to discuss anything AFE speedrun related, such as community voting for rules & changes as an example. Would love to see you there :) https://discord.gg/6XdSCJBdvP

We discussed game crashes and how to handle them on the leaderboards back in april with the community but didn't come to any conclusions. Feel free to join in on the discussion and see what's already been suggested as a solution on our discord in the #polls channel: https://discord.gg/V5uBZTSK77

Alternatively, you can also post your suggestions here on the forums but keep in mind that the discord is usually more active for immediate responses.

Hi everyone! We are going through Moderation Changes for the WWZ leaderboard & discord

You might have noticed that some runs have been taking a lot longer than usual to verify, sometimes a week, sometimes up to a month and I'm not satisfied with how long it's taking to verify or implement community needs. Clearly only being 2 moderators isn't enough and so I'd like to add new members to the moderation team to help out when we're too busy to dedicate as much time as needed.

As moderators we reflect the community's needs and provide the leaderboard with what is requested. If you're up to the task and feel like you'd be a valuable addition to the team, then feel free to reply in this channel explaining why you'd like to become a moderator.

As a moderator, it is expected of you to watch and verify runs submitted to the leaderboard. You are expected to be able to use our timing method accurately and edit the submission if the time submitted is wrong. It is required of you to be somewhat knowledgeable of the game and its speedrun so that you can detect any suspicious activity within those submissions. You are also required to have runs of your own verified on the leaderboard in order to qualify for moderation.

Being a moderator doesn't make you special, nor does it grant you power over others. If you're applying keep in mind you're doing so to represent the community as a whole.

Feel free to use this thread to apply for moderation. If you apply I would also ask that you join the WWZ discord since moderators use it to communicate with each other and the community.

The community will vote on who we will add to the moderation team. You can give likes to applications you support in this thread or use reactions on the discord channel to vote.

There has been discussion on the discord about changing our timing method for full episode runs to remove lobby time entirely as well as the loadings.

  • It would facilitate the use of an auto-splitter for the game which is something the community has been wanting for a long time.
  • It would make coop runs timing more precise by removing inconsistent pre-loadings in the lobby for certain players.
  • Would allow for coop runs to not be invalidated if the game crashes or a disconnect happens during the run
  • Would allow for a break in between levels ONLY for very long categories such as All Episodes DLC.
  • It would also make it so the runner would only have to add together each level's time in their submissions, making full episode runs more accessible and attracting to new runners.
  • Would make it a lot easier for console runners to time their runs correctly.
  • Would make it so full episode runs would get verified faster since verifiers won't have to remove loads manually or double check for mistakes as often.

Feel free to discuss about this topic down below. This thread will be used to decide how we manage timing going forward. Feel free to also join the discussion on discord and also vote in our #polls channel. https://discord.gg/Z57PWYn5ZG

Edit (Trombonerist) - the poll is now closed for timing changes. The other bullet points regarding breaks are still being discussed. Feel free to respond here or on the discord server. We will be updating the new timing rules soon.

Adding challenge cards to only Extreme & Insane speedruns seems like a good solution, at least for now.

I'm sure someone will want to use them on easier difficulties at some point, simply because of the fact harder ones will have it allowed.

We'll cross that bridge when we get there, rules have been updated. Have fun!

Not sure if I like the idea of adding challenge cards into the any% categories, if we add it to higher difficulties then what stops us from adding it to easier ones?

It would make the speedrun more or less "pay to win" as the cards need to be earned/purchased and some of them would become necessary to get a competitive time.

One solution could be to add categories specifically for runs with challenge cards enabled but that would add a lot more categories to an already pretty big leaderboard.

I'm open to ideas & suggestions on how to go about challenge cards going forward.

Also, you are allowed to kill the bots if you want, the rules only state that you need to have bots playing with you instead of players, I fail to see how that doesn't make sense.

The higher difficulties have been added! I was simply waiting on someone to submit some before adding them so that the leaderboard didn't have a bunch of empty categories and look like a ghost town.

I agree with everything h3dr0x said, it's easy to mod the game and go fast without recording. Gameplay proof is important to assure the leaderboard isn't cheated.

Québeclollipopomg3 years ago

As far as I am aware, the leaderboard is currently up to date! If you have seen a faster time somewhere else and it isn't being shown here, that just means the runner hasn't submitted the run to this particular leaderboard

Hi! Sorry for the late response. Consumables are allowed to be used in your runs. I'll add it to the rules to avoid any more confusion, thanks for mentionning it!

Hey there! For Coop we remove loads a bit differently from Solo, which may be the cause of your confusion from watching the Guide video, you can refer to the rules section for more info but I will try to explain as best as I can here in this thread. Let's take a full episode run as an example:

Exiting a level:

  • After the Blue Victory Logo fades away, the "loading" logo will appear bottom right, you start to remove.
  • When the first frame of the scoreboard/lobby (kills, performance, etc) appears, stop removing. Entering a level:
  • After the countdown from all players being ready reaches 0, first frame of "Starting Game", you start to remove.
  • When the first frame of the cutscene appears, you stop removing.

So for a 3 levels episode you would have to do these twice. Should look something like this: 9 seconds, 32 seconds, 8 seconds, 43 seconds (as an example) Now also keep in mind that not every player in the match will have the same lenght of loads, which means player 1 might load faster or slower than player 2 or vice-versa. We recommend having all perspectives recorded in case loads are inconsistent with your partners in order to have the most accurate load removal time possible.

We know the situation isn't the best for load removal right now but we have good news! A few people have offered to start looking into making an autosplitter with livesplit, which would resolve all these issues. Hopefully we get it working soon, we'll keep you updated!

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask :)

Hi Auddy!

I believe some people have tried in the past to make a load remover for this game but for one reason or another couldn't figure it out. No one is working on making one at the moment as far as I know, it would be amazing to have one if you're willing to try it!

Also feel free to join our WWZ Speedrunning Discord if you have any more questions about the load remover or the run in general, I'm sure other runners will be glad to help!

The rules specify "The timer does not have to be shown on the video, but the time must be verifiable."

So yeah, you should be good, have fun! :)

@Dangerless I don't think it would be appropriate to share publicly on the forums screenshots or "logs" of the private conversation RunningSky and I had. Like I said previously, we could discuss further on Discord for clarification in private.

Here is an explaination of the situation from my own words: RunningSky was the first Super Mod on the leaderboards having only added 2 Individual Levels, so when I wanted to submit a Level that wasn't on the leaderboards I contacted them and asked them to add the rest of the levels. They added me as a mod so I could do it myself, wich I did. I took feedback from the community on the WWZ forums while creating the boards and created a Discord server when interest was growing for the game. I sent an invite to RunningSky for the server and they never joined, I asked them back then if they still wanted to moderate and they answered yes. Couple months go by, RunningSky hasn't verified a single run and is completely inactive with the community. @ReportWroteByLeon and @Absurd_ joined the moderation team during those months contacting me and then RunningSky to be added as moderators. We have since taken every decision together regarding leaderboard or community changes. Recently, RunningSky added a new Moderator without contacting any of the other moderators or having a discussion about it. We had no idea if the new Moderator was even posting legit runs to the leaderboards and auto-verify himself. In disagreement with RunningSky's decision, I decided to contact them once again asking them if they would accept to give the Super Mod role to someone else in the community. Moderators @ReportWroteByLeon and @Absurd_ had a discussion and we all agreed that I would take the role going forward, so I suggested it to RunningSky. A week later, no replies from RunningSky and I was removed from the leaderboards moderation team without notice.

Sorry for the long text, but I figured I would go as much into details as possible. If you have any questions or require any screenshots of the discussion between RunningSky and I, please contact me on Discord. I will be glad to share this information with you privately.

Thank you for your time.

@Dangerless ultimately, our request was to remove RunningSky wich is why @Absurd_ posted first. He mentionned me because we would need someone to take the Super Mod role. Sorry if this wasn't the right place to ask.

Also I'm not sure what you mean by logs? If you mean Audit Logs from the leaderboards, I can't access those anymore. Maybe Absurd can show them to you. Otherwise, we can always discuss on Discord if you need further explaination about the situation, i'd be glad to go into details.
