Mod note: converted time https://nudua.com/convert from super game boy to real game boy to have accurate timing.

Is there a general consensus on speedrunning gameboy games on the super game boy? I've been hearing that it plays games faster than original hardware. Is this in general or for specific games?

I'm also open to what others opinions are on this as well, if other past people that have run the game want to give their thoughts on the matter I'm open to if there's a general consensus of how people would want to handle this.

Hmm that's interesting, I was under the assumption that it was the new path with the modern house that was saving the time and not the emulators but this make sense. I used genesis plus gx through retroarch with my run and looking back at my first run I'm pretty sure I used a different emulator at the time.

I'm not super familiar with speedrunning genesis games and if there are any general rules with this sort of thing, I've tried looking around to see if there are any agreed upon emulator rules but it seems like it's case by case. I would be curious to see what the time would be on real hardware, I don't have something setup for that but I could get something together if needed.

I also think it would be good for us to agree on one emulator to use. I would be fine either way, I'm just not 100% sure what is best practice. I made a forum post in the general speedrunning forum to see if anyone else had any advice for this situation but if I don't get a response or anything concrete, I might try first getting a real hardware setup and see what would be the most accurate.

Hello, I am a mod of the home alone for genesis speedrun and seem to have run into an issue with how different emulators are used and the speed gains from them.

The game has a set time limit so in the end whatever is the fastest to get to the end of the time limit, that will be what people use to run (this is similar to other home alone games, like the NES version where everyone is tied for 1st).

The run has recently been beaten by a few others, including myself, and uses a new strat to get the wet bandits stuck so that the time can just run out. My thought was that the new strat saved time from the old one, but apparently it's the difference in emulators.

The gist is that the genesis plus gx emulator included in retroarch seems to ultimately save 3 seconds over using other emulators. I'm not quite sure how to handle this or if there are general rules on situations like this or on genesis emulators to be used. I don't really have a real hardware test that I can do but I could get something set up if needed. I used genesis plus gx because I had it installed on my system, and looking back on my previous run I did use a different emulator.
