I'm not an avid runner of the game, but will dabble here and there. I noticed that GOG now has this game available through them and since I can't stand DOSBox I decided to give it a try and.. for the MOST part it's fine. Things I found interesting:
- The game lags if you HOLD an arrow key to move
- Using your mouse for movement seems to be more smooth
- There are new text boxes that appear and make it easier to read
- The old man quiz you can no longer type your answer you have to use your mouse to choose the answers (They're the same as the original)
- All items are in the game and the type-case is still the same.. but... this is where things start to get REALLY broken. In order to "100%" the game you must get 128 out of 128 points and in the original and DOSBox version that is very achievable - HOWEVER in the GOG Version as of right now you can only get 127 out of 128 points. The reason being is that when the Elephant dams up the river it's SUPPOSE to award you with 19 points, HOWEVER in the GOG version it awards you 18 points meaning when you save Penelope you will be 1 point shy.
Also the sounds effects are fun lol

Thought I'd add this here for those looking to get into the game and was wondering the differences and why you can't get 128 points.
My name is spelled wrong on the submission LUL
Switch has been added as a platform.
GBA Emulators are the absolute pits of hell.
I'll add the platform - but without a smile
I can get this added in for ya. Sorry - I'm not crazy active anymore.
You can tell by the region just by the intro screen. If it's in japanese then it's the JPN Region, if it's in English then NTSC/EUR region (doesn't matter).
I personally like regions because there is gonna be a point in time with this game where version and region could impact the speedrun - so knowing that information is good upfront.
This is interesting..
If the IGT didn't reset, I would say resets would be allowed. RNG Manipulations aren't a bad thing and it's what pushes games and runners to a limit.
But with the discovery that it resets IGT (since we base times for Story Mode off this) - THis should be properly thought about.

I'm very open to ideas, but the easiest fix I see for this is making the category utilize RTA timing, but I would still allow for resets. This would eliminate the use of IGT, allow for the manip, and utilize a more accurate timing.
The only issue I can see with this, is maybe emulators.. I will need feedback on this since I ran this game on the actual cart. Does the 3DSVC, WiiUVC, and Emulator have the same load time as if rebooting a SNES and a Cart for this game? Because if there is a HUGE advantage because of game resetting to a certain platform.. we have 2 options:
- Say the hell with it - play whatever platform you want, just know this one has an advantage
- Don't allow resets - which takes away barrier to entry for a top time (which I don't like)
Yeah seems like a valid/worth while category.
I'll have it ready for submission today.
maybe?
Can you explain what is happening? What's involved? (sorry not going to watch a 4.5 hour video)

Not everything has to be a speedrun category
If you're referring to pointing a camera at your Game Screen while playing on a GBA. It's fine as long as the video is clear and legible.
People do this often with DS/3DS runs.
Some people have also said their EMU used in the comments of the run as well, since this can be an issue when capturing.
Yeah.. so... could be an emulator issue or a connection from the controller to the PC issue. EMU control dropping is a little weird.
HOWEVER - this game does have a buffer time between inputs meaning that upon inhaling an enemy there is an x-amount of frames you need to wait before the next action can happen (We negate this with TAS SPitting). If the game starts to lag (which its notorious for) that frame buffering is a bit longer because of speed.
I ran the game for 5+ years and I still have this issue haha.
Legally we are not allowed to provide Roms and such.
Hello - A month ago I submitted a run to Red Bow (https://www.speedrun.com/red_bow) and it was never verified. I also submitted a new run a couple weeks ago and again to no avail. I reached out to the mod (gloubox715) via Twitter a week back and never got a reply (even though they shown recent activity).
The leaderboard/game isn't active (that I know of) but it would be good to maintain it. I can take over the board if needed.
yeah we need more detail on this category. As non-speaking Japanese runners of the game we can get by with trial and error on the menus.
If you can give us details on how it works, how to do it, and a video of everything.. then Maybe. Unless you're talking about in challenge mode where you obtain a certain score to get the best 'ending' screen. Even though Kine drinking like a fish is the best one.
yeah the game was a Japanese exclusive 'remake' essentially for the Super Famicom. Pricey cart if you can find one
Disregard. I found it in the JP shop. yeah I'll addd it. I didnt know it was available on new 3ds
Can you show me a legit shot of it on the Virtual Shop? It's not available in the US shop, so we need to make sure its there and real.
