From what I undersand it's pretty accurate, although I got 2m53s783ms when I used it on my YT export from twitch was was 764ms. Most of my moderating happens in Ocarina of Time where something like Avidemux is more recommended, that's generally what I'd use and often the result would be different for Somewes, not always. I tend to trust this one more but I digress. Is there any reason Somewes would be different between a YT and Twitch VOD? I submitted with the twitch vod timing since I'd imagine export might change something.
You know how sometimes when you switch cabins to empty one out, the person you emptied will suddenly be stuck to the counselor who was originally there? This always seemed practically random to me but I wasn't sure exactly what's happening. I guess it could apply to a low% route depending on how you went about it.
I've been doing what record does more or less but further left (similar to what zero did in his pamela PB but even further left, as far left as possible) because I thought it had a better chance of spawning in front of you, but then I'd still get right side spawns. I swear this was so consistent and then all the sudden wasn't. I used to just jump by the door but even that was going wrong eventually. I was hitting the house at 53 with the further left knife often, just barely though, but 53 is 53. I'm about to get back into doing runs, NES all set up and everything, finally, but this knife bothers me more than anything in the run
I do the jump right after the kill assuming that's part of getting it to spawn in front of you more but really I have no clue, maybe there's just a better chance and we'll never have a truly consistent strat.
The 2:22 TAS, I counted 31 hits on day 1, 30 hits on day 2, 31 hits on day 3, but I wasn't counting Jason running hits. I wondered how this was possible, and once I did count the hits as Jason begins to run away, sure enough they are doing damage. Day 1 has 1 running hit, day 2 has 2, day 3 has 1.
I was always under the impression it does no damage once he starts running and I'm pretty sure I read somewhere a long time ago that he doesn't either, so maybe it's only the very frame he begins running? I'm fairly sure at least that well after he begins running he won't take damage, I think I've noticed this before.
Looking closer, it seems that these hits are taking place 1 frame before he actually starts running, so they're getting in the hit just as he turns but before he actually starts running. So with that being the case, I suppose he can only take damage the very frame he turns and before he's running?
This thing is so full of utterly unplayable games it makes action 52 look good. There's some actual OK arcade ports to the NES on here but otherwise it's all some serious homebrew trash that will assault your ears. Look up Egg Contest and you'll see what I mean...
But what stood out? Friday the 13th is on here! I have no clue why, and you can't really reset the game so it hasn't been practical to get back into practicing but it's on there and has helped me sort of get back into it. Been attempting to optimize stone only, although it's really a pain.
I was wondering about this, not for SMB but Friday the 13th on NES. I'm only making a post here because I take it SMB frame counting is very precise and done a specific way, like many NES games with very optimized speedruns.
Most people seem to swear by avidemux/virtual dub, it seems both give me the same results overall.
Then some people swear by the somewes site, this seems to give different results than the above two and a different calculated frame -> time result than zapstudio would, so it seemed inaccurate.
It's been overdue, especially since there's so many more runs now and quite a few ties around the sub 3:10 / sub 3:00 area.
ms have been updated for those who put them in the description, but mostly we'll be frame counting the runs ourselves which will probably take a week or two. If you have a run of yours you want to update yourself though, do feel free.
Yep, I did an oopsie
This raises the question, should we consider a run with this legitimate? The purist in me feels like no, but it's such a silly thing to even be possible and technically the final hit was still made on Jason. It's just so easy to do this by mistake, I was holding right on the d-pad and must've accidentally hit slightly down, but you could also do this by mistake if you had crouched at the end of your attacks.
I think it should be fine like this but I'd like to hear some other opinions.
On a side note, it's good to be back into playing this game. This was my first night of runs in almost 6 years. Seems like sound is a little weird though... like the bass is going in and out. My setup is extremely outdated which might not help
So I didn't know much about this emulator, but I hear it's banned in pretty much all other games because of a lag reduction feature. There was a recent submission of 2:58 with this, but it also used autofire (which would have not been allowed anyway). Although apparently that bit about autofire was never in the rules, I coulda swore it was. I never came across any other runs on here that used autofire, though. It was only obvious here because the throws were oddly consistent and then I noticed it on the input display.
Just wanted to make a post about it. This game has really gotten a lot of runners over the last couple years so it would be good to discuss stuff a bit more about updating rules and such. From what I understand, FCEUX and Nestopia are fair game. On this guys 2:58 run, it did seem to me like some of the load transitions were a bit shortened, but apparently it can be near impossible to tell if someone is reducing lag (the feature that has resulted in this emulators ban)
Hi there,
So for the optimal route, I noticed some people have Laura or Crissy on day 2. Was curious if anyone has a preference for one or the other. I would much rather have Laura because I find it much easier to time throws with her and Mark, since their torch seems to have slightly more air time. Something about Crissys fast throwing in combination with faster Jason makes me more likely to miss hits. But I mostly used Mark / Laura in past routes so I could just not be used to it.
Also given Laura or Crissy can be in the cabin, would this mean there's technically a 2/256 chance for a good seed on this route? I heard the 1/256 figure awhile back but wasn't sure exactly how accurate that was. It seems like I get it pretty often, but maybe I'm just lucky.
That said, I'm going to start running this game again after 5 years and I'm pretty excited to go for record again! It's nice not having to 3 cycle Jason outside on day 1 anymore, that was the worst part of the route I used to run. Also it's nice to see this game go from 3 runs on the leaderboard to over 30. It seems while I've been gone a community has formed :)
I was wondering if any active / particularly knowledgable runners would like to become a leaderboard mod. There's a surprising amount of runs being submitted now and it's hard to keep up between this and Ocarina of Time (and life). If you think you fit the position, just lemme know. I think I'll mod GuitarGuy by default since he has record.
Also, I'm considering removing "in game time." This was originally only placed there because some people weren't starting the timer until selecting the counselor, which I didn't feel was a legit final time. It seems to have caught on pressing start on title screen and ending on Jason's last hit, so there's kind of no reason to have "IGT" anymore.
PGHGuitarGuy set a new record at 2:53, very clean run and would highly recommend watching.
Hey all,
So I didn't realize a couple of times were submitted on flash carts like the PowerPak. I never really specified in the rules before about these. I kept the times verified for now, but all future submissions should be on a real cart if possible.
Was wondering how others felt about allowing these. Currently, emulator times are hidden on the boards and not considered "official" and I'm not sure if Power Pak should be the same deal. The main reason I'm not a fan of this is because you can reset on the cartridge, not actually resetting the console. I don't think the RNG seeds reset the same way like this, plus it's just easier and less tedious than resetting the console.
Hi Jason slayers,
Didn't realize this forum was somewhat active. Just wanted to thank you all for being apart of this small community, one that could be more interactive but I suppose the opportunity hasn't arisen. It's pretty great seeing over 20 times submitted after there being no more than a handful for a couple years. I was essentially the single knowledge base for this game over the course of a decade, from obsessively playing and studying the game at 14 to setting my previous WR at 22. I'm amazed someone beat me to the sub 3 minutes, and before I'm done with speedrunning (likely in 2020) I plan to go for a 2:55. Wish me luck! And good luck to all on your goals. It seems recent routes are a lot easier and faster than anything I'd ever come up with. I can only hope some of the info I gathered lead to this better discovery.
Cool site, I like it. I've heard about games I run possibly ending up here so I figured I'd join.
