The option you are looking for is called 'Extra variables/subcategories', it should be near the bottom of the Edit Game page.

United StatesTwan_Jones6 years ago

Following that logic you could also argue the point that there's nothing stopping it from being a sub-category either, so people that don't want to play with something that's obviously an advantage don't have to be ranked on the same leaderboard as the people that do. Seems like the best suggestion given the fact that there is clearly a group of people that would like to keep posting and furthering times with the app and there is clearly a group of people that would like those runs to not be on the same leaderboard as their run that doesn't utilize said app.

Doing this weird thing where every forum post has at least a single character changed into a hyperlink that always go to the same website, and made multiple posts in a very short span like this, looks like a bot.

I don't know if the button becomes locked after a certain amount of time but I believe you can delete games that you have requested in the top right of the Edit Game page. https://puu.sh/Ap5oQ.png

The situation just sounds unsavory to begin with. It's great that people can follow up and actually get others attention on other websites but if they aren't checking the website for 3 weeks and then feel forced to check the website after being tweeted about it, are they still even fit to be a moderator? If they respond and clear the queue on their games and then leave it sitting for another 3 weeks, is that better than just handing moderator to an active user that says "Hey this person hasn't logged in for a month can I have mod for this game?". It's clear they don't have the time/attention to stay up to date with the site and it just feels like an unnecessary hurdle. I also don't expect people to check things every day, I'm just noting that if they aren't the type to do it then you will end up running into this scenario often, even after you reach out to them for being inactive and they respond that they'll try to be more active.

Remember to save the page, it's an easy thing to overlook because it's not really close to many of the sections in the Edit Game page and I've done it a few times myself.

I still don't feel like it specifically changes anything. If someone isn't the type to log into things daily to check on them for messages and such then I don't see requiring a social media link on the profile really changing their habits and behavior on how often they check something like that. I would like to hope that in-site message system would take over for majority of contacting issues because just like before, if they don't log into twitter or discord to check messages daily, then it wouldn't matter anyways and would require less of people when wanting to submit a game to the website. If you can't check the website or any social media links (like many moderators already do not) then nothing has changed in this scenario, and you will likely still be removing just as many non-responsive moderators as before.

The only instance I can see frame drops affecting accurate retimings is when there are frames drops on the very moment that you start timing or stop timing for the run. Even then it's not like the split timer will necessarily prove useful as there is no way to verify that the timer was started or stopped accurately in the first place anyways. I recommend splits for anyone that cares to learn what segments they are losing time on but it's not anything that's really too useful to the verification of the speedrun. I think timer's that are added post are the most useful way to visually verify that the timer was started and ended accurately.

If you do that you might as well just calculate the time from the total amount of frames. Just changing the whole time by an offset of however much it was off in the beginning doesn't account for splitting early or late at the end either.

I personally think it should always be required. It's a very simple thing to do and for most programs you would actually have to go out of your way to disable recording sound than to record it, and the fact that the sound exists goes in adding a layer of credibility for your run so that it isn't just immediately thought to have been spliced.

If there is a link to a Discord for the game's community in the forums or the guide for the game then I kind of feel like it's not that bad to not have any contact links, granted that you are in the game's community Discord to be freely reached.

I'd need to see a strawpoll with more than 5 votes before I'm convinced that it is widely supported but beyond that, if the moderator isn't acting upon what the community of the game agrees on then they aren't doing very good moderation, as the guide on moderation puts it “You are a representative of the community, not the ruler.”.

General consensus on modding is if there is another mod to verify your run then most mods won't self-verify. Doesn't mean that all mods will follow this but it's the most common stance I see taken on this subject. I don't agree with self moderation unless it's the only possible option.

Do a run of the game and submit and you could be that person to make the page if you really want it.

Not everybody is a streamer or twitter user though. As long as the user can list a place that they are active on and can receive personal messages on then it'll probably be sufficient enough. I'd say the biggest thing to add would be the 'preferred contact method', as it's not really uncommon to hear people preferring Discord or Twitter or even Steam some times as where they are most active, and being where they are most active means they are more likely to see messages.

I also agree with the sentiment that cheaters should be banned from the site when they are caught cheating. It feels weird to have a set in place rule about banning people that test moderators with fake/cheat runs despite that regular cheaters (generally) get their runs denied. It would be nice to see a standard put in place for what kind of rule breaking deserves a ban. I think in everyone's eye cheating has always been the biggest rule of speedrunning, you don't try to pass off illegitimate runs as legitimate ones, period.

I don't really see a problem with having a collection of levels that are a single world in a game remaining on the level leaderboards. The only distinction between the two is just that one is a collection of the other, but still not a full game run. The level leaderboards aren't necessarily set in stone as in it HAS to only contain single levels, I see it pretty much as a segmented category already, levels are segments of a game just like worlds are too.

Not sure if I see anything wrong with how the page is setup, there are currently many other games setup like this. I would understand if the game had a lot of other variables that could result in different runs but as far as Any% and 100% as main categories and game version as sub-categories look like they fit the situation just fine. I think series should generally be relegated towards a collection of different games related to a specific game world, and not a collection of ports of the same game for different consoles. Just my opinion on it.

This appears to be a result of the filters hiding one of the runs, the actual 1st place run has no difficulty selected, and does not appear unless you tick 'Any' in the first difficulty in the drop down menu for filters. The filters could really use some cleaning up though, as difficulty is listed as a filter 3 different times. https://puu.sh/A50Yi.png

Doesn't matter how much of a "joke" the game is considered in the community for Bioshock, it was either not a valid run because it was impossible to retime accurately or it was a valid run that should not have been bumped with meme submissions twice. Neither situation calls for uploading and verifying meme runs either, there is literally no situation where uploading and verifying meme runs is beneficial to anybody.
