Any emulator will probably be fine as the game is non-competitive at the moment. If you are worried about future-proofing your runs I'd definitely run on Bizhawk with mGBA core or just using mGBA (either one with a BIOS file is optimal) as they are the most commonly accepted in GBA speed communities. If you have any questions or need help setting it up or anything feel free to ask here or message me

Hey Jon, Kaiser is pretty spot on here. Although I would probably be against a segmented leaderboard because as soon as someone does a run in one sitting that board would be obsoleted so idk. Plus if segmented runs were legit then any person on youtube with a let's play of this game would have wr right now.

Also just to clarify the current 1st place time on this leaderboard is played on gameboy player with gbi, my wii u vc time is only on youtube

Texas, USAScrub_Busta3 years ago

No it's not official, it's an injected rom that's played on through the official wii u virtual console. More specifically the rom is injected with a tool called injectiine and launched via homebrew through loadiine gx2. There is more than one way to run homebrew and inject roms though, but that's what I used.

no problem, if you have any other questions feel free to ask on here or message me on discord

The version I use is the same version, the packs are there because I watch the tutorials at the beginning. Check out my section on packs in my GX Duel academy video here

I can capture gba via gameboy player and a nintendo DS capture card but it looks like shit, and wii u is more official than emulator technically speaking. Wii u vc via homebrew is allowed in the Minish Cap and Kirby NIDL communities which are some of the biggest gba leaderboards there are.

Hey Shira and welcome! Making categories for this game is kind of hard because the only non-arbitrary thing to go off of (in most games) is when you see the credits you know that you have beaten the game. This is sort of why KoG is the only legit category and everything else is pretty much made up. In your first post you mention that Blair and Gerard can't be unlocked until the 2nd year but you can stay in Slifer since day 1 and they will appear before a year occurs so I'm not sure exactly what you mean. I made a video about how to get king of games shameless plug and has some details about unlocking characters and obtaining all the cards. We have had discussions about a "Prince of Games" category but KoG really doesnt take that much longer to achieve, collecting all the cards isn't really a problem because of the DP farming methods you can use, you basically have infinite money early on in the run.

However, I do want to see a category that can embrace the aspect of deck making that gives you access to all of the cards where you have your deck put together before the run starts. One category I have been thinking about which could be somewhat viable is an "All Duelists" run where you start from King of Games and you have to beat everyone including Chazz/Alexis' lackeys and the Shepard. The problem is that you still have to be in each dorm to duel everyone so it wouldn't be that straightforward, you would have to start in Obelisk blue, beat everyone, pass a exam (hope you dont get a hard practical exam objective), beat everyone is Ra Yellow, fail the next exam, then beat everyone in Slifer as a dropout.

Retroid's post kinda sums this up pretty well, most categories are close enough to KoG to not warrant another category, but if anyone has any ideas about another category that could work out I would love to see another category in some way.

You know on your first run your game crashed at the EXACT time one of my test runs did (a long time ago), I wonder if there is a consistent way to prevent crashes somehow. I would be careful on the jail level after you have cleared the 2nd set of prisoners and you back track to get the checkpoint because the room where there are a ton of those pink slimes on are the ground has crashed the game for me at least once before.

So I figured out a skip in Dock Duel and you can walk to a later part of the level and over many tries I was able to skip a ton of the level the fight to where you fall into the ground and go into a weird place.

However I've never been able to replicate the glitch and its a little tedious to set-up repeatedly so I figure I would post it. Whenever I try to re-enter you get a softlock where you fall until you void out, then you are brought back to the top and are put into the room without any creatures to kill so you can't advance (they spawned and voided out with you).

In the video I use a box but you can also use Robin, its very safe for awhile when you're out of bounds but when you get to the part where you are blind you have to walk CAREFULLY until you can jump into the structure thing on the other side. Then you have to go up to the wall and jump around the corner, there is a small section you can jump from until you fall. Maybe you can spawn Raven or Starfire to jump out instead of Beastboy beacuse they float further, but idk.

Example of the softlock

PS3 should be allowed and left next to ps2 times. Speedrunning is a fun hobby and you can speedrun on anything you'd like. However, if you want to be competitive then sometimes that means you need to invest in the most optimal method of running the game.

If you don't want to go to the lengths of getting a ps3 then you shouldn't take the game on a serious level, just have fun with it.

Due to Vyse finding a new skip like a boss, I've updated the video in the first post

Texas, USAScrub_Busta8 years ago

Yeah there might be 1-2 skips that are slower if you execute the alternative well but I'm not too sure. Also on the video for the second skip I didn't get the first cycle of the crows so you can get the skip a little faster, but I haven't compared the alternative. Your post was a huge help btw

Also you can skip Rock Lee's healing animation (still working on this)

I made a short compilation of all the tricks/skips in this game for anyone interested.

I tend not to pay attention to level leaderboards for some reason. Plus IL's seem unappealing to get into at the entry level of a game imo. As far as "any%" goes, is there any sort of "low%" option (you don't have to call it that) that ends the run upon discovering/defeating all the main duelists minus the shepard? Or something?

I'm requesting to be Super Mod for "Yu Yu Hakusho: Spirit Detective" I beat the WR for this game and DanTheEnigma who is the super mod (and the only one) got upset I beat his new time, removed my run (not rejected it), unmodded me right after, disliked my video on YouTube and blocked me on twitter. All these things happened at exactly the same time. Plus, I was a normal mod for months and verified a number of runs so it's no coincident he removed me hours after he saw I beat his time. He gave me no explanation and he is clearly abusing his mod powers. I won't submit anything for the game as long as he is the mod. Thank you for your time.

This is his profile: http://www.speedrun.com/user/DanTheEnigma This was my WR run that was taken down: www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoOdc_t0lto

When you're highlighting or creating a speedrun video, at what point do you call it a WR? Should games with only one submitted run be called a world record? What if there's only 2 people running the game? I think in certain situations it could be appropriate for a category that is extraordinarily long and will stand uncontested for a long time. I know there's not a definite answer but I'm curious on opinions about this.
