Just got a 25s run using all but box surfing. The second half of the run was not that great though.

There are a lot of time saves on level 4-6 possible. I will upload a video showing these strats later if someone else doesn’t complete a run using them.

  1. This is the easiest strat, after passing the chocolate guy, rather than continuing to the left to push the button to stop the fireballs, you can simply pass through one of the rows of fireballs into the lower room.

  2. Strat #1 can also be used in this next room, you are able to pass through the rows of fireballs but it is much tougher due to the rows being closer together. You must enter between the rows a bit to the left of the exit to the room and then hold right while falling through the row.

  3. While you can probably also fall between the fireballs in the next room as well, you have to be able to get the box to the lower room. There are two different ways to save time over the intended way. The first is to go to the right side of the box and start to push it to the left as you fall down. You should land on the berry boxes. After you push the box off the blocks, go around the berry boxes to the right and simply push the box to the est of the room. A much harder strategy but one that saves some time over the first version is to use box surfing.

  4. In the final room you can also use box surfing to avoid having to jump over the fireballs.

Overall using all of these strategies, especially box surfing, would be difficult to make in a single run, however #1 and #3 especially will be useful to easily save time in IL or full runs.

I have recently gotten into running Lunar Mission, and I would like to have longer runs on the leaderboards. On iOS, or at least on my iPhone, there are only 24 levels in the game. Could we add categories for this? Right now I am only interested in running with the Scout, but I may be interested in the other ships as well.

I would also like to know when the timer should start and stop.

Thanks in advance!

You can do that with android. I don’t know of a way to do it with Apple devices.

Restarting the game data is required for full game runs. Unless something has changed in the past few months, you will have to delete and reinstall the game.

That sounds about right to me. Are there other games that have a rule like this where we can base this rule off of? If not, I think .8 would be a fine cutoff.

On the level select screen, click the timer button in the bottom left corner. The reason you have to use in game time is because the in game timer might not be entirely accurate compared to “real life” time. But it will always be accurate within the game. It is also easier to verify times or to check your time while doing the run if you use the in game timer. It is not an issue of laziness of not wanting to time it yourself, but to ensure accurate time measurements. Hopefully I explained that well, kinda wordy in my opinion...

This has been known about. I don’t think it has any use.

For Green (another similar game) I have found differences between playing the game on my iPad and my iPhone. I am guessing this is due to the different screen ratios. I have noticed some similar differences in this game. The big one I found was level 24. Because on my iPad the ball spawns lower on the screen than on a phone (going off of the wr run), it will have a completely different path. The ball also seems to go through blocks when it hits two of them at the same time. Without any practice/routing, I was able to beat the time in the wr run for this level. For Green, the time differences are not yet significant enough to do much about it. However, it seems like for level 24 this would be a huge time difference. I’m not sure what should happen with this. I would like to speedrun this game on my iPad if possible, but it would give me a significant advantage it seems (maybe other levels are different as well, I can check that out as well). Let me know what can be done about this.

Level 24 for me:

I have mostly just run the game for fun, so hopefully someone who does run the game can confirm, but looking at the rules, cd stands for coin doubler, so it is either permitted or not depending on the category. The 96% category is described as: “Beat the game as fast as possible including all portals, all bosses and all treasures. Must finish on killing last boss and show save file (96%) at the end of the video for verification.” Seems like you have to do everything except every quest?

There are a few differences between the levels on my iPad and my iPhone. Probably is due to differences in screen ratios. I don’t think anything needs to be done about the leaderboards right now, but in the future once runs get more optimized this could be an issue.

Here is a list of the differences found: Level 4 - More space above and below center on phone, doesn’t change anything for the fast way of doing level 4, but other ways would be different. Level 18 - Different strategies must be used, slightly faster on tablet. Level 20 - the “snake” starts lower on tablet, saves a few steps. All the levels with falling circles might also be different. If I had to guess, it would be faster on phone be cause you would see the circles at the top of the screen before you would see them on tablet. I can check this later. Edit: This is the case, it is slightly faster on phone. However, this should only really change times for level 23, at least at current skill levels. This adds less than half a second to tablet runs though. Another thing I noticed was that where the circles landed was slightly different. I’m not sure if that was because of slightly different dropping points, or if the “width“ of the screen is different.

When the rules say on the frame you enter the exit pipe, what exactly does that mean. Is that when your character is partly covered by the exit pipe, is completely inside the exit pipe, or something else?

Another difference, on iOS you cannot drop items, you can throw stuff like rocks and pine cones, but the sticks you have to hit an enemy and have it break to get rid of it. This leads to a slightly slower time in level three, but again, not the biggest difference.

True, if there are more runners we should separate them then. Thanks for all your help!

I did find a slight difference between your run and a run of the first level I just did. I will post a video with a time stamp of the difference. It didn't seem to affect the time, but it is different.

That is amazing! Thank you for the quick reply, and I will hopefully submit a few runs soon!
