I'd play this Any% Glitched category. Might attract new players looking for a short play through?

I messed around with this a couple hours tonight with some crappy TAS runs.

Without New Kid basically the earliest we can hope for to get past the purple tentacle is from the Ed door bell cut scene when the package arrives. Essentially it would come down to who lags out the game the least to get the door bell the soonest.

I crapilly TASed out a 10:21 without using new kid at all. Then as an experiment I went back and instead of waiting for the door bell, I used the breakers to set up the fred skip and new kid past purple that way. That ended up being a 10:06.

The New Kid seems like it can be really situational... Too much is bad. but some is good.

I haven't really tried implementing anything risky yet, I feel like by the time it's all said and done Solo% won't look too much like any% if we keep New Kid. I think I've got a way to set up the "Fred Speech Skip" with just Dave, but I'll need the Rusty Key, and New Kid glitch to be able to do it.

I'd like to see New Kid stay, but if you want to ban using New Kid in solo%, it's going to slow the run down significantly.

As for retiring 2-character, I say go for it.

Let's do Dave Solo%, I think it's a valid run idea, It's been around a while on youtube prior to any of us running it; capnshrimpy and myself have run it recently, it's pretty interesting run.

We could ditch deathless I suppose. It just seemed like a decent difference in time using the death abuse vs Deathless but I don't know that I really pushed as hard as I could have both ways time wise.

Oregon, USANeSs7or99 months ago

Are you seeking just a little more gameplay, but without the daunting task of dealing with 100% all treasures? Have I got the categories for you! How do you feel about:

Any% [NooB - Deathless] - This is an early route of NooB before I found death warping could save significant time, and I never came back to improve deathless NooB

Any% [NooB] - After I discovered deaths could save significant time, I started taking some D's to save frames:

Feedback would be welcome.

Hello runners!

We've received the first JP specific time submission over the weekend and I'm asking for runner feedback on whether the game times should be all left together on one board, or if JP times should be kept separate from US times on it's own board?

The big advantage to the JP version is that the fish weights are in KG where as the US weights are in LBS. This means that the JP scales will stop between 5-600kg where as US scales will continue to count up to ~1200LBS. It's a pretty significant time difference especially toward the end game where you're looking for big fish, and we have to see the fish weight twice.

Thoughts?

I just practiced this a couple times this weekend for the first time, and I would agree that the rules are definitely a confusing read. Even after watching some runs I wasn't sure what was happening, until I saw one that had inputs showing and I could see the code being input at bedtime.

What if the rules were modified to "L+R+Select code is mandatory."? That would accomplish two things. 1) All runs are done correctly, even by people that aren't familiar with the game with a little explanation 2) The mods won't have to sit through a 1-3 hour run from someone that didn't use the code.

Interesting to see the numbers.

I've always just kind of assumed that the new kid menu will display at the same time the normal menu would have, but I haven't frame counted to see a difference. It feels about the same timing wise, instead of buffering a movement (when not switching kids right away) I'm just buffering the new kid menu to show up. Would have to do some actual frame counting.

I've always timed my runs to the first frame when ALL menu options are displayed (3 lines of text, or 3 kid names), and I stop the timer when ALL menu options have disappeared, with the exception of hamsteak% where I stop the timer at first frame of "No Thanks". This has always made the most sense to me on the interpretation of the rules regarding time start/stop.

Well, it seems like there's a variety of things that can happen here with the GT room and Ed. Here's what I'm getting on real hardware,

  1. Intruder halt! at the top of the security stairs (Reset)

2)Tentacle not frozen, No ed spawn, Ed answers door (Reset)

  1. Tentacle frozen, No ed spawn, Ed answers door (Reset)

4)Tentacle frozen, Ed spawns at top of stairs (new kid to walk past ed, and go upstairs without ever changing characters like normal GT) (This is 2nd most desirable)

  1. Tentacle frozen, No Ed spawn, Ed does not answer door. (Most desirable) (edited)

After practicing this for two hours, most common things that I get are # 4, 2, 1 in that order.

I kinda feel like if we're going to allow the 2-Character glitch in any%, we might as well just get rid of the 2-Character% category as it's kind of pointless to have if that's the case.

Thoughts?

I have been operating under the impression that 2-character runs are for the 2-character% category for quite a long time...

I like to make sure that the cutscene with Fred and Purple Tentacle play before opening the inner door to the lab. (The “Oh no! Someone turned off the power”/etc cut scene)…

If the inner door is already open prior to interacting with the valve or breakers, nothing will ever happen.

If you’re closing then opening the pool valve back to back, timing is critical. If it’s opened too soon after closing, it’s basically like you never closed it and the house will blow up. Or tentacle will never show up to bust you by the breakers. There’s a real fine line there on the valve w/back to back actions if there’s no screen transition or cutscene between them.

That’s been my experience anyway

I would be willing to compile a video of useful “tricks/glitches” that could be used in runs. I feel like that would be helpful to most newcomers.

I haven't been able to do it on a screen transition by itself, or transition to the pause screen. Getting caught by Edna seems to be the easiest way to set it up. I'm starting to think it's all smoke and mirrors. Looks cool, but might just be wasting time. That's a lot of screen transitions there, and not much progress on movement. I'm not real sure about it at the moment. Neat to see and thing about though.

Hilarity ensues... This is just getting silly. I love it.

Walking off screen was originally pointed out by capnshrimpy in a meteor police run. I stumbled into a way to repeatably set it up when despawning Edna in the kitchen. It seems like the character you're controlling off screen must move extremely fast as I was able to traverse the security hallway and up the stairs pretty quick. I've been messing around trying to see if there's someplace it can be put to a decent use.

At this point in time, maybe a "NMG" or "Glitchless" category would be worth thinking about adding.

How "by the book" would we be playing? I assume no New Kid exploits? What about giving green tentacle a pepsi? The programmers clearly wrote specific text for green tentacle to say when given a pepsi... Maybe they didn't know it would disappear afterwards. Would that be considered a glitch? Hmmmm...
