Hey so the Kirby community recently agreed to separate Kirby Squeak Squad by platform, so Wii U VC, DS/3DS, and Emulator would now be distinct from each other on the leaderboard, but when I went to add subcategories to indicate this and then applied it to a category, all of the runs were deleted until I got rid of the variable. How would I do this now without this happening? Easy fix would be for runs not to be deleted when this happens and then we can just manually move all the runs from there to the right subcategories by resubmitting them, implying this is a bug and there isn't some easier way to do this that I'm missing somewhere lol.

Apologies if this has already been inquired about somewhere in this thread :x

This was never replicated no, or was really ever done I think? The post just states possible ideas for making something like this happen, not that it ever happened

I believe runs will be submitted, but I could be wrong

What Zennan said. I personally split when I start the next set of microgames, since that's what I saw Werster do back in the day. I'd recommend doing the same since I've personally found that to be the easiest place to split.

Requesting https://www.speedrun.com/multikirby Multi-Game game type added to it, also to list it as an unofficial release on the Kirby series page (Idk if I can do that myself, but I couldn't find the option to do so)

If you claim it's a record time like you said, we'll most likely need a video for that. Which category did you run? If it's the main category of the game, Normal Any%, we DEFINITELY need a video for that, but if it's any other category, it will probably be fine without a video

North Dakota, USAMr_Shasta7 years ago

Exactly what Dyceron said, but also Any% has a much faster trick at the beginning where you can get Volt Driver early, which saves a few minutes but the trick is incredibly hard and barely possible RTA. The route you can do without that trick is literally the exact same as the All Items route but you don't get every item. All Items is a much better run, which is why it's faster since it's been taken more seriously than the other categories

Scans account for 75% of this game's total in game counter, and since some objects can only be scanned once, and if you miss it it's gone forever, such as the lone Missile Door at the beginning of the game, it's not exactly a fun category. You'd have to stop so much to scan things, whereas in All Items or Any% it's just barreling straight through the game no holds bar

Japanese version saves a minute over the English version mostly because of 2 things:

  1. It allows you to just go straight to the elevator in Subterranean without completing the room normally, saving around 30-45 seconds
  2. It allows you to use the elevator in Alinos near the 1st Slench fight on your 3rd escape from that area

The English version can't do either of those. Other than that I haven't noticed any other difference between each version. Thankfully as well you can get a cheap copy of the Japanese version of this game here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0002FQD72/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used&qid=1434765257&sr=8-2

Sorry for late response. Hoped this helped someone!

Done! Please submit now and put your game under Wii U VC when you do. Sorry about that. No one's run on that platform and this game hasn't been active so I guess I just forgot to add it lol

I actually found a better way to do the little skip in 2-8. If you miss the flower, then you can go to the left, jump on the cliff, and flutter 3 times to make it onto the ledge instead. Also can't do the 3-7 skip at all after trying it for a while. If you can make a video on how you do that, either with a webcam or a phone, that would be fantastic. 3-2 is something I didn't even know about, so I'm going to do that in runs from now on. Same with 3-6 (never even realized that and it blew my mind lol) and 4-4. Thanks for showing us all of this! Looking forward to anything else you happen to find :>

Your English is still pretty good and I get what you mean :>

I'm down to retime runs if need be to accommodate the rules if agreed upon. I'm a big advocate for final input on speedruns for timing them. To me it makes sense since that is truly finishing the run. You don't need to do anything else afterwards so the game is truly done. On final point you have to still go through some things before being done and I'm not a fan of that. i could deal with it if not agreed upon but that's what I'd like personally. As for the starting point, if we do agree upon starting on file select, starting your timer on confirming your name won't work because IGT starts on selecting the file, so it would just lose time to do anything but get through that as fast as possible, so I think overall that would just be better to do, even if it means losing custom file names.

I know Gen 2 Pokemon has a similar problem with going back to the main menu. They defeat the Elite Four, are forced back to the main menu, then go and complete Kanto until Red. Pokemon speedruns are notorious for going by IGT, but I know there's been some discussion recently on changing to RTA because of that forced menu not being counted there too (i'm friends with a lot of people in the community). You can theoretically just go away for a long time and come back and finish the run.

If we go with RTA, despite the differences between console and emulator, this would completely cut out any doubt of this and keep it all together. I feel like the differences between emulator and console aren't that bad to warrant the immediate switch to IGT in this case. If there's evidence that emulator is way slower than console, then switching to IGT would be a great idea. If it's faster, then more discussion on the legitimate-ness of emulator for runs needs to be had. IMO if an emulator is faster than console, then it shouldn't be allowed for serious runs. But as it stands, I think RTA would be overall better for the game.

Hello there,

I'm making this post because I just realized I never edited the rules to this game after I became mod of it months ago, so it still had the same ruleset one of the previous mods had on it. Basically I was thinking of making the rules start from selecting the file and ending on last input, which would be after the upgrade screen is done after defeating Mario/Bowser and Waluigi. The timing when I picked up this game a year ago was that it started on confirming your name and ended on final input, but I feel like this new ruleset would be better for both the in game timer and better for RTA runs too. Unfortunately with these new rules, you can't name your character what you want and just have to go with what's the fastest thing to do there, so hopefully everyone's alright with that. What do you all think of this?

Also here's a little bit about the in game timer for this game. It seems to start from selecting your file and end once the credits hit, but doesn't discount loads or if it does then it's very minor and I haven't noticed it. One problem with using it as the main timing method though is that after you win the Island Open, you're forced back to the main menu, where the in game timer doesn't run since you're not in the file that has the IGT you're using for the run. These 2-3 seconds of not being in the file are counted in RTA but obviously not in the IGT, but are still a part of the run. My point is I was thinking of keeping RTA as the main timing method, but with the timing rules I'm imposing the IGT will be a bit more accurate at least for every run. If someone wants to do some trial runs with these rules and try to beat their PBs with them, that would be lovely. If IGT proves to be a bit better or more accurate, then I'll move to have that be the main timing method.

Let me know what you think about all of this. Opinions are welcome for everything about this game.

I'd like to request to be mod of Yoshi's Island DS. I've been routing the game myself on and off for about a week or so now and finding lots of new strats, skips, and tech to it and will be doing my 1st run of the game this Saturday for the 12 Hour Challenge. Having mod will make it much easier to update the leaderboards with my times all the time and further inspire me to run the game more. The current mod for the leaderboard, B00Spring, hasn't been around in at least a month, as indicated by his Twitter activity https://twitter.com/b00sprong . I can't check how long ago was the last time he was on speedrun.com, but I imagine it's been a while too. The other 2 mods are super mods who are both great at running Yoshi's Island, so they probably don't know much about Yoshi's Island DS. I also want to clean up the rules and expand on them a bit more as well, like how 100% isn't even the game's 100% definition. For reference, this is the 100% rules for Yoshi's Island and I want to make it more similar to this http://puu.sh/mU8G8/5be4decf6d.png. Thanks everyone :)

Hello. I'm a series mod for the Metroid Series and a few weeks ago Metroid Prime Pinball was added as a game. Seems like the person who added it is most likely just squatting on the leaderboards, as he turned off series mod power, made an Any% category with no rules, and probably didn't even bother to look for runs, such as UchihaSDA's runs of the game on Youtube . Now I saw user Bysshe post in this forum about this and the game's forums about setting up categories and adding runs, and I'm all for that. Plus if he wants to run the game and the mod has been inactive for a few weeks, this is just discouraging as a runner because he can't post and update his times. Can someone please mod Bysshe in Metroid Prime Pinball and/or add series mods back so this can be fixed? Thank you.

I'd like to request to be given mod for 007: Agent Under Fire. I've been trying to contact the mod for that game for about 5 days now, and for like 3 days to accept my run and I've gotten no response. Also the leaderboards in general are really outdated and inaccurate. For instance, the main category he has on there is "Easy Difficulty", but the real easiest difficulty is actually called Operative. Also he's missing 1 time on the hardest difficulty that has been done, but of course he's not here for me to tell him to add it.
