This actually isn't true, not only are console players unable to run RT, but Linux's RT equivalent (Mango) is brutally unstable and MacOS lacks an equivalent (only having benchmarking tools that are unable to set fps caps on programs). Windows PC users are the only players who can run RT with any consistency which is ridiculously unfair to a large number of runners especially when you consider the thing restricting their runs is a third-party program.
The fact of the matter is regardless of how cool the strategy is it cannot be accomplished without third-party software. To be quite frank most boards on SR.com would deny a run like this using outside software to use glitches otherwise unobtainable within the game. After running extensive tests on the glitch the max amount of FPS loss I could achieve was 100-130, without Rivatuner to force a cap that doesn't exist in K&L2 even most consoles would not reach the lag needed to perform any of the strategies in this run (assuming console players had a Print Scrn strategy to begin with and barring the PS3 and 360). Even amongst PC players this strategy is unobtainable, with less than 10% of Steam users having a PC required to perform the glitch naturally based on the quality of hardware in Steam's latest Hardware Survey, this percentage doesn't take into account players not running windows systems, which would likely lower the percentage further, though by a small amount.
Sweet run, I swear to god the Airstrike crash happens almost 75% of the time.
I certainly understand the stance, it would be different if it was an in game FPS cap, using an external program not only allows for glitches outside of the game in its regular form but also limits the competition pool heavily.
For me it depends on how important Rivatuner is to the print scrn strategy, if it isn't needed I think a new category should be made and keeping the Rivatuner ban should be up to mod discretion. If FPS limiting is NEEDED or makes the strategy easier I don't think it would be fair for future competitors on consoles or certain OS' to not have the ability to even try for WR and thus I don't think it should be allowed and no new category is required. Linux isn't compatible with Rivatuner but I believe you can use Mango, and Mac doesn't have any kind of equivalent (same applies to console), making runs for those players impossible.
I absolutely agree with the Discord idea, though I will say it seems most (in terms of this situation) are in agreement about creating a new category for runs such as this, could yield fun results in the future without removing glitchless as an option for those who enjoy running and watching glitchless.
Apologies, I should've worded that better. By 'not allowed' Im not referring to its status as a banned tool, I am aware that rule was added after your run was submitted, but instead I'm referring to its status beforehand as completely unmentioned. Due to the fact that it went without mention before the run, I believe it was fair of the moderation to decide if a limited use external program such as Rivatuner should be allowed. As stated before, I think the ultimate solution here is to turn 'Any%' into 'any% glitchless' and create a new category for 'Any%' that makes use of the Print Scrn strategy. I can't rightly see any other solution as a good idea. though I'm not aware how reliant this strategy is on Rivatuner, I have yet to test it and have only seen its use through your run.
I don't think the life of the game should determine how much effort mods make in terms of ensuring competition is fair; and in some defense of the mods, Rivatuner is an external program not allowed in the games ruleset, and their choice to ban it is one that is by all means a fair choice. Assuming no new category is made my the mods, I can't support allowing this run, it uses external programs not mentioned as allowed by the ruleset of the game, as well as strategies only available to a certain percentile of runners.
I think the best solution in my opinion would be to create a new glitch category. runs before this don't take advantage of outside glitches (ie. print scrn), but I don't think that is enough to make a run wholly illegitimate, it does however create an unfair environment for console runs or runs on certain OS'. Previous runs, to my knowledge, don't take advantage of glitches besides arguably the checkpoint load in level 2, which isn't really a glitch considering the checkpoint is hit by a player and it's a part of the game design. I think a new glitch category, or at least a category for windows PC specific glitches is the best possible solution to the situation. (Edit: I will concede Rivatuner as kind of illegitimate)
