Coolkid came in actually and talked about the tas some, so that's how I decided to use some of the strats I did. That run was actually not so good with the dmg boosts tbf, you can get forward boost from some, and I missed 3 of them that saves times, especially the second loop one at first cp. getting that one perfecly saves like 1 second.

With optimal RNG, optimal execution, I can see someone getting a 3:25 if they don't mind going insane... I'm still talking about first roll Yatzee...

Yeah was a lot fun grinding the credit warp one(got a 3:29, it is over at my youtube if you wanna watch it) and got a 1:47 non-credit warp the other day, did remove all death/reset times and time was down to 1:30, so might be able to get the top time in that category as well.

About the "glitched world", what I did find was that you could access rooms you shouldn't be able to, but all enemies are despawned, events aren't tho. So you can trigger rooms with text on enter. But the boss after didn't spawn, but maybe some could work. The way it seems to work is that you can "easily" access the next in line subworld.

I just realized during this, because all the graphic is messed up, maybe you could find the people you talk to by cruching all over the place... Which could mean you could access the stage 5 blade right at start, cutting out the need to go over there(still need the flight tho), and having the weapon early on, making it possible to reach rank B on that blade without any grinding. This is just a theory in my head tho, but will experiment with it right now :p

Learning the game currently. So just posting the few things I've found:

Area 1, instead of resetting after getting metalblade, you can backtrack to the Elevator you take down. By down+jump on the elevator before it, you warp to the room below(it's how all elevator glitches work). This should save some time, and maybe get you an extra level early.

Up to stage 5 I've not found any other use, I've found a few places where you can go below, and then jump back inbounds, but it doesn't really do anything besides look cool. Hoping in stage 5 where you get jet boots it will change tho, as getting back inbound should be a lot easier.

There's a secondary glitch to the elevator. if you go up until the final pixel, and stop. You enter a "float" state. So you can fly through rooms. I can see a few rooms where this could save 1-2 seconds if executed really good.

The elevator glitch only works if the up/down scroll is locked for that screen, and you can exit the elevator from the top.

If I find something more useful I'll post it :)

I'm not 100% sure, but here is what I remember:

Getting the step back needed to do it in 5 is really really hard. Not impossible, think you can lose a couple of pixels in total. add that the enemy not punching for 5 step backs are really unlikely(I've done it, had it happen, several times, so nothing impossible). So I have in all fairness tried it enough, for the second part of my theory why I didn't go for it.

Second part of the trick unless you do the TAS slide is just slower, by quite a lot if I recall right? 0.5 seconds or so when you combine 1 and 2. The tas slide I think is really hard on dpad?

backward slide inputs are RLLRLLRLLRLLRLL and forward LRRLRRLRRLRRLRR without any lost frames. You could maybe do it for long enough to make it viable tho. The main key of making the strat work is getting down the number of punches required to the same as the original strat.

The reason you need to punch more times is because of your position on the second screen. doing the 3 dodge strat will put you futher to the right of the 2nd screen, requiring 3 light punches, or 1 light and 1 heavy(faster I believe, but discovered it after my grind). While the other one requires 3 heavy punches(might be more) or 8 or so light punches? don't recall the numbers, but was quite a bit more at least.

Would love to see you work it out and would defently bring me back to the game now that I have original hardware and such.

So I checked with somewes tool ( https://somewes.com/frame-count/ ) the top 2 times when the new top 3 time came in, just because I hadn't done it with the runs before and only gone by frame count.

The issue is that even tho the top time has a few frames faster frame count wise, the slower time with more frames according to the frame counter is faster according to it. and even when I cut the videos in a program the slower one frame-wise is faster.

Just putting this out and will investigate closer :)

Took me a while to figure out this game had a "grand prix" mode, and it is quite fun actually :p

So I just wanted to ask if there's a possibility for cup or a any%(all cups) category?

Also noticed that 8bitbeast timing, if we follow the rules above would be slower, not by a lot. But having a audio cue as the pinpoint is really rough, so I understand "lower rank" runs doesn't get the same attention and such. Cause Wersters time is spot on(using these above, that's why I assume the timing I've been using is right).

If I would give a suggestion it would be first frame you can see the credits instead. This way it would be alot easier to frame count.

So learned this game for fun, but found the "any%" timing wierd to actually end split on a audio cue. However if you play on an Bizhawk, and make sure to have framecounter up there is a very easy way to framecount.

Start Frame: The frame your character is viseble(you can't move first frame, but assume the current start frame is viseble and not controll? correct me if wrong)

End Frame: 9th red frame after warp is where the first tune of credit.

In this case, Drakodan's time is actually 21:067(1267)

Cause his video shows at bizhawk frame 775(white frame) character, meaning 774(red frame missed) is first viseble frame. First red frame of the credits are 2042(video), Credits red frames last 15 frames, and checking the video we can se frame 2056 is red(14 frames later+the frame it starts on=15).

I took his old time: 21:300 / old frame count 1281 and got the convertion you guys are using, and multiplied it with the "correct" frame count of 1267 to get 21:067. (21:116 if you just do 1/60).

so just wanna make sure I understand the timing rules, for a short game like this it's really important to have clear timing rules and such.

I'll just put my input in here, been running the game a lot with niss3, both PAL, NTSC. seen the difference in stuff like the final boss taking longer time to explode just because of rng, starting the game takes longer, cause of rng.

They had similair problem with Mickey's safari, and they decided to have start time on a more concistent place, and this is a game the requires that imo.

You should listen to Niss3, he runs the game, and he is really knowledgeble. When you aren't running the game yourself, you should add a runner as a moderator and let him and the other runners talk about the rules and decide and not just say "this is what I think, final word"

Lets all be grown up, move on from this, and learn from it. Be nice, be respectful. If someone added a game to my series, and I knew nothing about it, I would listen to him, cause I know nothing, he knows a lot.

Will post here as well not to make a new topic:

How do you guys feel about joypad(dpad/joystick) vs keyboard? in the current state(no tas walk, don't even know if it's possible by a human) there's really no hard advantage I believe. Where it would be is the LEFT to RIGHT movement while performing glitch, but it's one sequent every 0.5-1sec while performing it, so I don't think it gives any advantage beside maybe a bit more concistency on keyboard.

My vote goes to not seperating it currently at least, but keep monitering and maybe gather more information from older/more knowledgeble runners. maybe 1 frame between left/right input isn't possible on Dpad/joystick(pretty sure it is on dpad with the grip I use for urban champion, but could be wrong), but most certenly are with keyboard.

So I will make a recording when my new computer arrives(this weekend hopefully), and just going through the current wr strat and the natural progression from it. I believe anyone can do a sub 30 time once they get the glitch down with the right rng(and we are speaking 10-15min rng grinding).

I'm usually against having multiple categories for a short games, but of course if there's enough intresst in it I am happy to add another category I guess.

Or I could just make a really fast guide explaining how to get the glitch to work(think the current guide is like 20min, and haven't watched it, but could make a 5min guide if that would help?), which the current wr strat and the next natural step for it?

Like Merrik said, a glitchless would just be "Oh do I get the perfect rng" vs glitched that actually determines how fast you can do the glitch. But again, if the intresst is there I will gladly add another category.
