So, I know that this would be a pretty remarkable kill, but it seems pause buffering is actually better than killing Megaman normally. This isn't against the rules, right? Given that pause buffering is allowed everywhere else.

I'd love some of the runners and/or mods thoughts on this. Kind of makes me question whether consecutive pause buffers should be allowed on bosses, but considering the ruleset for the past runs, I don't see a reason why it shouldn't be.

Less RNG and stuff. Can we add this as a category? @MilkToast

This feature is included by default in the GOG, ScummVM version. Also, see video description for run-pertinent information.

Just wanted to put this out there before I forget. Fun to look at, but not much came of it.

Thanks for the encouragement. Yup, I did edit my other post to mention the Zoo killed my very first run. I was aware of the glitch from watching your run, but forgetting to "confess" made it difficult to gauge when the announcement was going to trigger. It was a much, much slower run, though. I haven't been hopeful for any interesting discoveries, but I suppose new findings are always possible. Adventure is not my go-to genre when it comes to speedruns, but will make a mental note of the Discord server. Hell, I still need to check out some of those Adventure Soft games casually before anything.

But yeah, will keep pushing for at least a decent low 2-hour run, but sub-2 should be very attainable. Everything hinges on that obnoxious Stew puzzle.

I'm still devastated. The only reason I can think of why it happened is due to pre-buffering F7 before the vent shooting up into the air cutscene triggers. I did some timing, and it appears this run would've been about 24 minutes faster than the current record without the Gas Grenade re-route, so the sub 2 should be ripe for the taking. Stew was very slow, but I didn't get caught by the Cygnus Alpha guard. Some hiccups also happened amounting to perhaps 30s to a minute.

I'm happy with the amount of time saves I've managed to come up with for a run with so few inputs, but this was a godawful experience. What an absolutely shitty way to get your run killed.

Hachimen1 month ago

Oh, and I'm actually wondering if RNG is going to murder my run when I finally try this, cause the routing improvement is to gas grenade the dummies and never re-enter the room, but apparently Feeble suffocates if he's too long in the room with the gas.

Edit: Well, shit. My first run died to the Zoo glitch. I failed Tiles the first time, the guard caught me twice, and it took 3 tries to win Stew. Baby steps, I guess.

That damn Zoo glitch is the absolute worst, though. I suppose because you can't estimate how long you'll be in the arcade.

Yeah, I had to modify someone's version of Mastermind to be 6 colors / 6 pegs because regular Mastermind is always 6 pegs, 8 colors at that level of difficulty. I'm still not very good at it, either, especially when the icons are different in-game.

I find improvements are always possible simply because a fresh pair of eyes is re-exploring the game. For example, the glitch with the Filbert you utilized can be performed right at the entrance of the screen. Don't have to blow up the log at all.

Some minute routing improvements elsewhere, too, but nothing major from a game like this. I just want one decent run, so we'll see what happens.

Been working on doing a run of this lately, and the Pairs have been by far the most precarious, aside from the obvious The Stew.

Mind revealing what you did to nail all of the pairs in your run? @MilkToast

This hurt to see. Snide mockery in response to someone trying to be helpful. It does suck that a mod chooses to act this way.

So, the entire knowledge base of the old Discord is now gone. That's exactly what I was worried about; unnecessary drama and retaliation. I don't get how this couldn't have been talked out and resolved amicably. After all, some new mods were being recruited.

There's a lesson to be learned here. I'm happy the community was able to move on, though.

Hachimen5 months ago

You should give some respect to those who are willing to maintain the community without abusing it for personal gain or giving it up to whomever has the loudest voice. I know Valmerix is a good guy, and if he's saying the SM is being obstinate, that's concerning, but not a reason for creating hostilities. Inactive communites sometimes take weeks to verify runs or mods have to be contacted over social media. Stop trolling.

You're essentially saying the Super Mod is incompetent as well as the rest of the team and want a change in leadership, which is just being belligerent. Are you sure that's the correct way to go about this?

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but couldn't /adgac_extra be created right now by pretty much anyone to provide a platform for all of those additional categories?

Hachimen6 months ago

@AggressiveCombo You sound like someone who would do a much better job without compensation. The only question is, will you still be here in 6 months, verifying runs for a game you no longer play. Submissions are obviously being verified again, so you should realize just how petty this is.

Hachimen6 months ago

@AlliexRage

I wouldn't put it that way, as it's just an opinion I formed to push back in defense of the hard work the mods are doing to maintain the community.

Ultimately, you could come up with good enough reasoning for or against, it's just a matter of phrasing. Skipless may be harder to push for outside of category extension leaderboards, but ILs seem reasonable, given that GOI had them. It all hinges on how convenient it is to time and verify the submissions.

Hachimen6 months ago

Most of these ideas don't make a lot of sense from where I stand.

Distinguishing different controls could be achieved through a filter, and justifying adding a category because you "suck" seems to defeat the point; do you intend to stick with the category and improve, at which point you'll stop sucking, or do you just want to submit a run and move on? In the latter case, you won't produce a remarkable run to begin with and should just submit to the default category, as the content is essentially the same.

Doesn't AS13B play without spacebar already? So, the idea is to separate his run from the default leaderboard as well or copy/paste the submission? Clutter-introducing logic at best, needlessly separating players from competing together at worst.

Many communities deal with suggestions to create categories by ensuring there's demand first: produce your run, make a thread to post it in. If there's continued interest, mods ought to take notice. The middling outcome for keeping leaderboards clean is creating clutter for the sake of players who don't actually have prolonged interest in running the game.

@SirAppleslice

Nope. Albeoris hasn't updated the GitHub repo since 2020. Either you're doing something wrong or there are issues on the latest Windows. Try running it on W10.

Hachimen11 months ago

@Tyste

Thanks for the response. Loved your quick kill guide in the guides section, very informative stuff. Respectfully, is this just your opinion or the community consensus? I'm aware that resizing the window would be an example of an unspoken rule for this game, but affecting the FPS doesn't seem to fall into the same category. Is the in-game option also disallowed, even though the rules make no mention of it?

@cocicocyn

The trade-off is that the game runs slower. You also couldn't do this without the "Button 4" glitch and some intense mashing. Virtually impossible to pull off in a speedrun.

Hachimen11 months ago

Not sure what to think about this. You just press Left Alt + Space for the window menu to pop up, which reduces the FPS to around 30. With keybindings that don't mess with the Windows shortcuts, you could play as normal with clear advantages, and toggle it easily. You could even do crazy stuff like in the vid below under good circumstances. Thoughts?

@P3nisOfGod

So, I'm not sure if the files for GOG were deleted because they were too "piratey" or Palmer just ran out of space, but here goes, I reuploaded the original .zip that I had lying around.

Note that you can assemble the package yourself using Albeoris' github repository and DxWnd. To make Maya run by default, just add "-r", without the quotes, to the shortcut's "target" path, which should look like this: "X:\Septerra Core\septerra.exe" -r or start .\Launcher\Septerra.exe run . -r -M in the .bat launcher.
