Given that the only existing run has the "Arcade (emulator)" tag, it seems like the answer is yes.
I can't tell if this is a meme or not, but if it's serious I vote very strongly against it.
I'd like to request moderation for Hajime no Ippo: The Fighting! (GBA). The current active moderator has asked me to join and lend a hand, but the super moderator has been inactive for over a year. I've been unable to reach the super moderator on their socials as well. I've added my socials and enabled email verification, so I think I should be good in terms of requirements. Thanks for any help you can provide!
I've been messing with some combos, and I've found consistent 1-down KOs on everyone except Date, Miyata, and Hayami! Once I get a good enough run, I'll post it to YouTube and you can check it out for yourself. I think it's going to cut the time down by a full 1-2 minutes, if things go well!
You're right, I just don't know how to count lol. That's a really interesting mechanic, I'm surprised anyone figured out how it worked! When it happened to me naturally, I always just assumed it was a random chance type thing.
Just a heads up, there's a pending Any% run I submitted yesterday with an 8:04 record, but I didn't realize the Okita strat would work on Saeki. So if you want to preemptively beat that, a 1-down KO on Saeki would definitely beat mine!
Although I just ran the numbers from that sheet on a 1-down KO I just found on Volg, and the combo I used is nowhere near 140 damage, mine was over 180, so something might be off.
Edit: Then again, my math might just be off, because my calcs for the okita strat only come to 103.2. For example, (9.6 x 2(body blows)) + (36 x 2(liver blows)) + (2.4 x 5(hooks)) = 103.2. Even if one of them was a counter, it'd only come to 104.4. Am I just misunderstanding the spreadsheet?
I have no idea on the Date front. This is the physical cartridge I've been using to play the game since it came out, so it could have been any number of things. Most likely I accidentally 140 glitched him somehow, but I have no earthly idea what combo I used. Is there any documentation on how much damage each character takes? You seem confident that Okita and Saeki take the same amount of damage, what do you mean by that?
Edit: Just realized I got some of my numbers mixed up on my first post. It was Shigeta that I beat in 48 seconds, not Date. Just edited it to correct the errors.
Oh shoot, I didn't even know this was a thing! I never explored the options menu in fear of accidentally deleting my save, so this is nice to see. Btw, do you know how you got Saeki down so fast? My time is a whole minute above yours, it'd be convenient if you had it recorded somewhere!

Sorry for the delay, SaurusKing. Didn't see the notification at first.
I think even a "no custom characters" setting would add a lot of strategy, since you'd have to work with only the cards you stumble upon
The most fun part of this game (to me) is the tournament mode, but at the moment the only character worth playing as is Miyata since he has the strongest knockdown moves. Would we consider having subcategories for each character? Like a subcategory specifically for Mashiba, or a subcategory specifically for Sendo? It'd give people reasons to come up with strategies for each character, and I know I'd run those categories constantly
There's already a non-speedrunning Gotcha Force Discord, we could always add a speedrunning channel. Would that work?
Based on the rules given in the "All Characters" section, it sounds like it's beating the arcade mode with all characters but it's not very specific, what exactly are the rules? Is sasuke a different character than sharingan sasuke? The only run submitted has no video attached, so I don't have much to base it on.
Forgive me if this sounds naive, I'm very new to the whole "speedrunning" thing. I was under the assumption that the on-screen timer was necessary, so you're saying moderators will consider it even without the timer? How will they know what your time was?
I've seen many recommendations of timing software, but it's all been listed for streaming/recording. Most of my games are on console, and I'd rather not spend too much money on a screen capturing device, so I would take video (decent looking video, don't worry) of my screen. However, is there a program to add a timer onto video footage, to make the speedrun easier to follow? Any help would be much appreciated.
Hey, I'm sorry if this isn't the right place for this, I'm very new to the site. How can one apply to become a moderator for this game, and is it possible to submit a run without a timing tool on the sidebar?
Hey guys, can you add start/stop timers to the rules? It's kind of iffy where we're supposed to start and end our timers. Any help would be much appriciated
