Hi, I was wondering if it's possible to start a run by loading a savefile that saved before starting the first mission, allowing me to customize controls in-game. Asking this since you can customize controls only after starting a new game or loading an existing savefile, and the custom control scheme is saved directly into the savefile. I double checked that loading a savefile that saved before starting Mission 1 still triggers all the cutscenes and dialog boxes that are triggered with a fresh new savefile, so there is no time difference by doing so. Asking this because I prefer to invert the Yaw and Thrust buttons, and to invert the Pitch axis. Thanks!

This is an archive of Sega Rally 2 ghosts and leaderboards for the PC and Dreamcast version of the Japanese Leaderboards site "http://ir3d.netgamers.jp". I took the liberty to backup every Replay File and Leaderboard present in the site to have them at hand in a single .zip file. More infos are found in the Info.txt file in the main folder of the archive.

You can find the archive download on the Resources section of this sr.c page, or you can click on this link: https://www.speedrun.com/resourceasset/55p0g

If you want to visit the site itself, where you could also forward yourself Dreamcast replays with the Dream Passport, here's the link to the Sega Rally 2 section: http://ir3d.netgamers.jp/segarally2/index.html

(Please note that I still didn't figure out how to correctly forward yourself ghosts with the Dream Passport, and I'm not sure if it even works)

Today, changes have been made to the leaderboards, in order to improve competition fairness and keep leaderboards future-proof.

First, Real Hardware and Emulator runs have been split into two separate categories. The main reason behind this choice is that Emulator runs can use any kind of input device which could give an unfair advantage over who plays on Real Hardware. This is mostly true for Arcade runs, but it could have an impact on the other platforms as well.

On a second note, it's still not 100% clear if all the emulators are accurate to their respective original platform, so the split has been done in order to avoid future issues regarding this matter.

Second, all platforms (Arcade, PC, Dreamcast) have been split into their own separate category. Arcade has been already split from PC/Dreamcast in the past, but now the last two have also been split, to reflect what old online leaderboards already did. It's still unclear if PC and Dreamcast have differences between each other for which one or the other is faster, but this way leaderboards are future-proof.

Lastly, rules have also been updated to be clearer for everyone.

This is the theoretical best video footage available online of a full Championship run done on real arcade hardware. This is a segmented run, so it's not valid as a world record, but it's still very close to DKI's World Record of 3'57"35, despite having different splits, and despite being .02 faster.

Run Splits Desert: 0'56"06 Mountain: 1'00"63 Snowy: 0'56"68 Riviera: 1'03"96

World Record Splits (as listed here) Desert: 0'56"12 Mountain: 1'00"52 Snowy: 0'56"66 Riviera: 1'04"05

I opened a Discord Server for all Sega Rally games, to have a common place for all the Sega Rally speedrunning communities.

The server still needs to be refined, but most of the stuff is already in place so you're free to join.

So, I had the chance to try out all Sega Rally 2 versions, being PC, Dreamcast and Arcade (both Emulator and Real Arcade).

After intensively playing PC/DC versions of the game, I tested out the Arcade Cabinet version of Sega Rally 2 through Supermodel 3 Emulator and on Real Hardware as well, and I found out some differences between AC and PC/DC:

  • Arcade Cabinet physics handle slightly different from PC/DC. The car is generally a bit more responsive than PC/DC versions, and jump physics are also generally more detailed and bumpy.
  • Arcade Cabinet's car hitboxes (as well as 3D models) are slightly different from PC/DC. AC 3D Models/Hitboxes are generally thinner, while PC/DC's are wider.
  • Track Layouts are slightly different between versions. An example of the track layout being different is Mountain, right before the hairpin: in the Arcade version, the dirt section continues up until the hairpin, while on PC/DC the dirt section gets replaced by a tarmac section after the turn before the hairpin. Another example is Riviera, specifically the last hairpin, where it's possible on Arcade to slide on it easier than on PC/DC. Timestamp for PC/DC: Timestamp for AC: Another example is Snowy, where the borders with piled snow are a bit tighter than PC/DC, and the hairpin turn is also easier to slide on Timestamp for PC/DC: Timestamp for AC:

Taking these facts into account, I was considering splitting the two versions into two subcategories for Arcade Championship and Arcade Practice tracks, being AC for Arcade Cabinet/Supermodel 3 runs, and PC/DC for PC and Dreamcast runs. To me, it seems reasonable, even if the times that could be achieved on both are similiar. Let me hear your opinion on this. The split would only be for Arcade to have a separate subcategory, PC and DC will stay unified.

I made a wallpaper based on the Dethkarz banner present in Steam and GOG.com, here's the link: https://imgur.com/yAaXsyF

Unfortunately I couldn't make it so that the cars are visible completely due to the original wallpaper being made as a banner, but I still think it looks cool. Tell me what you think!

I thought it would be cool to have a Discord server to share strategies and thoughts about the game. We might not be many players but I think it might be a good starting point to make the community grow and improve the boards of the game.

I was wondering if it could be possible to add a category exclusively for Templar Time Attacks, in place of the Arcade category. I've seen there's an Arcade category, but I find it a bit redundant since there is already a Time Attack Mode. Thoughts on this?

Lazio, ItalyBrionac3 years ago

I've been doing some Time Attack yesterday after finishing the game, and I noticed that the in-game timer for the full track doesn't actually start when the announcer says "Go!", but when the car actually crosses the Finish Line. That means I can go backwards as soon the race starts, take some space and do the first lap at the same speed as the other laps. This would allow for faster full times overall. I wanted to ask if this was a known thing or if there has been a silent agreement to not exploit this. It might be a little annoying to go backwards for getting enough speed to start the first lap, but imo it still allows for faster times. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

The video is in italian, but it basically says that there's a bounty of 50€ on who gets 1st before the end of April (May 1st). I figured everyone should be informed about it :P

Hi, I was thinking if we could create a discord server for Sega Rally 2 speedrunning, mainly because we could gather all the informations about the game's techniques and all the progresses for getting close to the times of that japanese community. Let me know what you think!

Hi, I was wondering why there are different categories between Hardware and Emulation for this game. As far as I know, at least for Sega Rally 3, there shouldn't be any inconsistency between the actual arcade and the teknoparrot emulated version, so I was wondering if the emulated port actually has some inconsistencies compared to the console port counterpart.

I also have a suggestion for the sr.c page in general:

  • Since Sega Rally Online Arcade is a porting of Sega Rally 3, this page should be named after the original game, or at least have both names included in the title of the game. I also know the games have some differences between each other, like new cars in the Online Arcade version, so maybe it could even be better to split the two games into two different sr.c pages, but I'm not 100% well informed about the Online counterpart of the game, so I'm open to discussions about this.
  • Add a filter to distinguish vehicles used in the run
  • Add a filter to distinguish Manual or Automatic Transmission
  • Add a category for completing the whole Championship plus the Lakeside Extra Stage (To calculate the IGT, just add the Lakeside time to the previous three stages time)
  • Maybe differentiate between Sega Rally Online Arcade and Sega Rally 3? Since the Online Counterpart has different cars in the game

I'm open to discussions about everything I suggested. Thanks!

Hi, I started running Individual Tracks on the Dreamcast version of the game and I noticed something about the Peugeot 306 Maxi, at least on the Dreamcast version. I can't really reproduce the maneuvers that people do with that car on the Dreamcast version of the game, the car just feels a lot different, and slower. Now, I can't confirm this completely because I have no way of playing the Arcade version so far, but I would like to know if someone else has noticed the same thing with the Dreamcast or PC version of the game. Could this be investigated a little further?
