No, the speedrun doesn't take advantage of that. Honestly, I feel like it'd actually be slower than what the speedrun actually does which is get a shivan dragon and rush the 5 castles.
Also, i still run shandalar when I have enough time there's just been no time lately with dragon warrior and zelda 2 randomizer tourneys running concurrently.
If your version starts with shivan sometimes, I'd say that's probably not something that would fall in the same category as what everyone else has run; red apprentice decks in my version are always identical; you may want to see if you can get that version installed; I think I used this tutorial: https://www.slightlymagic.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7342
I dont know of any variance in starting deck for different versions; I do know that different difficulties result in different decks. I do know that my version, which I believe came from the guides post in here, always starts with eternal warrior and colossus of sardia.
As for a discord, I dont think there's one out there and the community is likely too small to support one.
I got really good RNG on the programming puzzle and the music puzzle to put up that 18:16, just stole most of both of your strats and got lucky. Nice to play through something I loved as a kid. May need to attack lost mind next.
BC, that's awesome, didn't know that. will have to implement that when I get back to running this. Giving it a week off so I don't burnout.
Couple of things I've picked up in the last month+ of running this game, take them or leave them, but they helped me get better.
-
When selling your deck/cards if you right click them then hit the S key, it'll sell the card much faster than clicking on it
-
You can clear the stops on your opponents turn (and even your turn). If you load a game, jump in a duel and look at the red dots on the turn phases. You theoretically can remove all of them except your 1st main phase, since the deck we build doesn't need to use anything outside of 1st main phase and our attack phase.
-
The 10 key on your keyboard is the absolute best for navigating dungeons and the overworld, all 8 directions at the tip of your finger.
-
the map has roughly twice the range of your screen, so every 15s or so when searching for castles it makes sense to quickly check it.
-
Anything you can use the enter key for, do it, steps in the turn, accepting cards after beating castles, all of it. Much faster than moving your mouse over to try to click on it.
Tips I picked up from kingsaluman:
-
F2 brings up the menu and you can enter right out of it; much quicker than running your mouse up there and clicking it.
-
If you start at/near the red castle, you can attempt to clear the first castle without picking up a shivan. You will need to find eternal warrior on the boss fight, but its completely worth it because you can get the shivan from beating the castle and be done with your deck and have a castle done in 2 minutes if you're lucky.
Any other tips out there? post them here! let's see how low we can drive this WR down to!
I haven't been able to, I have the same results, game runs in the upper left corner but the videos for beating the dungeons run in the middle. I capture the entire display but have it as the bottom layer in OBS and have other things over it. terrible solution but its functional.
Just saw the new run posted with a known/set seed, have to think that probably belongs in a different category since those runs should be much faster?
