ArgentinaI wouldn't recommend you to learn that strat just yet, it's really hard even for some top 10 runners. It's only worth it if you can get it first try and the AFH/ABH strat with the cube isn't that much slower. Another way you can speed up the cube route is to do the button saveglitch which saves about 3 seconds and is really consistent :^)
You can use the Demo Autorecorder Plugin done by Maxxuss to atleast get some proof of your runs. But consider getting some equipment for recording since it becomes painful for the moderators to check your run and it will extend the period of moderation for it.

You don't need to start your time manually, livesplit will do it for you as soon as your crosshair comes up on the first map.
Are you sure you're playing on a legal version of the game? The torrent (old engine) version doesn't work with game time.
If you do own Portal and you are starting it up through Steam, then you should start out by downloading Source Unpack, which you can find in the Resources section. It's the version we recommend because it has many more glitches and tricks, as well as a working demo system.
As a last resort, you can check out if your game process is being recognized by livesplit. To do that you need to go to Edit Splits > Settings > Game Process List, and check that hl2.exe is in that list (if there's nothing there, type hl2.exe in it)

Yes, this game is really fast paced so waiting 10 seconds will slow you down most likely. Also, there's not a reason to disallow it if the time before crosshair appearance doesn't matter to the end time at all.

the difference is the time you take between maps, in normal portal you have to wait inside the elevator to load the next map whereas in this game you can instantly go to the next one.
