In the spider-man 2 (pc) leaderboard (speedrun.com/sm2pc) it doesn't even show anything lol
We have decided that all future runs will require game audio in order to be verified.
This is done for a few reasons: First of all, it is easier to notice spliced video when there is game audio present. Also, some emulators enable trickery to change how the game plays, but they tend to mess up the sound as a side effect.
And as a side note, It's more entertaining to watch runs with sound.
This change will not affect any runs already approved OR submitted before this rule change (march 7, 2022).
Good luck and go fast!
Categories like "die%" only exist is games that already have a lot of categories, and it's usually more of a joke run. We are probobly not going to add "meme categories" to the leaderboard for the foreseeable future.
An "All Secrets" (all spiders+prisoners) run was in the works for a while, and then was abandoned. Since we see now that other people have intrest in this kind of run, we will definitly work on it and add it in the next few days :)
We double check the time of every run anyway, so no, it does not matter
What @Mili_ said, you don't a timer on the video. I also check the time manually on every run submitted, so feel free to write an aproximate result, I will change (retime) it anyway
Some cinematics can be skipped by pressing space, some can be skipped by esc->main menu-> quit game-> reloading the save, some can't be skipped at all. Either figure which one's yourself or watch one of the WR runs.
Editing the game files is againts the rules.
While punching, hold jump and walk back at the same time(hold jump + S). Start jumping and walking back while the punching animation starts.
Yes its that simple
You're welcome
(I could make a video showing it, but honestly its so simple you should just try it)
Shtrudel yes the final result screen apeared on 57, but the last frame of the mission complete screen was on 58. The rules (right now atleast) is that time stops on the last frame of the final result screen, not the first. Off course spliting late doesn't matter, I'm just asking about when to stop counting time :)
So this is how I understood the rules so far: The beginning of the run starts at first frame of loading screen after pressing new game. The run ends at last frame of mission complete screen of the final mission. are we changing this? I just got a little confused about the Mod comment on Weengell's 34:57 (Incredible BTW)
I think that "all secrets" or "all spiders&Inmates" would be better if we want to keep "100%" free for additional stuff like time challenges, defeating all enemies and getting perfect score in each stage.
personally, I don't fancy the time challenges, they seem a little bit bland, but we can keep that option open for a potential 100% category. Right now I think a category that goes through all missions, collects all spiders and inmates, and finishes at the credits would be fun.
Currently constructing a route. Are we going with this?
Edit: lol finished my first ever 100% run: https://imgur.com/a/3hXEVtP
I don't think the time challenges should be included. while yes, having time challenges in a speedrun sounds fitting, I don't think they're interesting in any way, and they always felt like an afterthought in the game design anyway.
The category should have 3 requirements: a. defeat all Prisoners b. collect all exotic Spiders c. defeat Doc Oc and see the credits. We can call it either 100% or "all spiders & Prisoners".
I just think it will be pretty fun to have a longer category that shows more of the game. I'm currently figuring out the route, based on this ign article that shows all spiders and prisoners: https://www.ign.com/faqs/2004/spider-man-2-walkthrough-557674
What do you guys think?
Edit: turns out the IGN articale does not contain all spiders and prisoners inside missions, like the bank or mysterio's world. I'm down for doing a search across the entire game and finding them if you guys are
Edit 2: This guy, "Sonic_Exe231", made videos showing all spiders and inmates: his channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoffm5XOA19gdJiWr4xZmMQ All Inmates: All Spiders: (thanks to Bokijack for sending me this channel)
After an hour of attempts, I managed to get it to work only about 10 times, I would say around 1/12 success rate (estimate, I didn't keep track of the actual number of attempts). It seems to happen when puma jumps to late, missis the ledge and falls down. It seems pretty random right now, It isn't influenced by punching puma, or running quickly in front of him. no clue if you could actually make it happen yourself ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I wonder if you can make it happen by going in the tunnel first. going to do some testing now
If you know Puma building skip, just watch the second video.
So, regular Puma skip works like this: you run in the building, get close to puma, the jump up ahead of him, which confuses the game, Puma doesn't climb up the building, and you can go down and quickly finish him. demonstration of regular Puma skip: now, here is the interesting bit: sometimes Puma gets stuck in the large chamber in the building. If he does, it allows you to a. beat him very quickly b. after beating him and quitting to main menu (skipping the cutscene), when you reload the save, you appear next to the sign to the next area, allowing you to continue much quicker. Demonstration:
executing it correctly can save up to half a minute from regular Puma skip. I had this happen 3 times, only this once while recording. I don't know if its RNG based or if it can be influenced by the player. maybe if you nudge Puma to side just the right way?
Edit: Video links
What program/Media player allows me to go through the video frame by frame and shows precise time?
Lets say I discovered a consistent setup for a hard and inconsistent trick. ethically speaking, is it fine to keep it a secret until I use it in a run?
should I reveal and explain it immediately? what's the consensus about this? I know speedrunning is a group effort, so is it fair to hold back info for a while?
Follow up question: are there any other settings I should know about?
