Submit times. If the mods are gone, we can appeal for new ones and get the categories updated from staff admins. But even if the mods do see this thread, they likely won't do anything until they see a reason to do so, and that reason would be that people are putting in times for these categories. This is the time to do it considering development is stopped and these times can be iterated on with no issue.
PMDT doesn't condone their use, not that that's a real reason not to use them. If memory serves, PM-CC plans on continuing development, so if we were to go this route that would mean even MORE versions of PM to add to the version list. 3.6 being finalized means we can finally start optimizing this game, adding this characters so haphazardly will just create more division in categories and make things even more confusing for potential new runners, not to mention potential strats in the 'final' version of PM being patched out in CC. just my 0.02c
Edit: I was mixing up PMCC with PM:CE. Still stand by original statement, but I'd like to hear what others think
personally speaking I run with emulator because I can't afford a capture card at the moment, nor do I have a reason to purchase one beyond melee. that's why stadium runs and regular modes are ran with IGT. I dislike being called a cheater when I'm not actively trying to cheat for something like this. Emulator is the only viable way I have of recording and displaying something I do for fun. RTA's fine and everything, but outside of adventure I don't see any advantage to using it. RTA's the reason I hate OoT speedrunning, buying an iQue for loading times advantages is the kind of thing I dislike.
as long as emulator runs are clearly labeled (and they seem to be off by default for speedrun.com's listing) then I don't really see any 'unfair advantage' going on. same with SRL, while I don't go there personally, if I had a problem with emulator runners, I'd just avoid them. Like @pikashy claims, most people will have a physical copy of this game anyways if they speedrun it (or not, considering melee is only becoming harder to get a hold of these days) so there's little reason to get worked up about this kind of thing.
I'm not saying anyone's calling 'cheater' here, but it's disappointing to see this treatment towards people who may have extenuating circumstances. wah wah victim complex wah.
edit on edit: i'm an idiot, ignore the giant rant I previously had right here.
So...
Where'd Melee go? Can't find the leaderboards or Forums. Posted in Site Bugs a few weeks ago but nobody has said/done anything.
Looks like the Super Smash Brothers Melee leaderboards/forums are down. Not sure if it's for maintenance or something. Here's what I get when I try the normal game url.
Brawl/64/U all show up in the games list as well as the forum, while Melee is absent. Thought I'd let someone know.
Scratch that first part, I found the Project M section hidden under Romhacks for Brawl. Here's a link for any who can't find it. http://www.speedrun.com/Project_M
It seems that PM more or less has the Categories I was looking for in Melee. I don't know how much trouble it would be to add, but Melee's Stadium games have been run for a pretty long time now so they may or may not get activity if they were added. I'll leave the choice to the discretion of the mods.
Any shot of games like Project M or Brawl Minus getting added? I'm more interested in getting a centralized leaderboard for for smash titles, including PM since that's probably the most high-profile mod out there right now. Also, I know it has the potential to be a clusterfuck, but how about getting HRC and BtT leaderboards up as well? AiB/Nintendojo have the old records with videos so it'd just be a matter of porting them over. This is more of a personal pref, but I'd also love to see All-Star mode categories, and maybe some more difficulties, but I know you have to draw the line somewhere. Any input for more varied categories is welcome. I know a lot of people run Classic/Adventure for points as well.
