We have added individual level runs. You guys are now free to speedrun each individual chapter in the game.
Please read the rules before running.
Good luck on runs!
Hey all im a moderator for layers of fear 1 and a former runner of this game. we have a lof1 discord for speedrunning and with the permission of the lof2 mods we have merged both games into a single community discord for all to join.
heres the link https://discord.gg/EJ4gszS
see y'all there!
SRC user SoftBoyoUwU suggested a speedrunning discord for this game and even took the time to set up the basics for it. Thanks!
Link is here and in the sidebar: https://discord.gg/EJ4gszS Look forward to having members join.
an alternate to this question is is it known which ending is fastest yet?
i just completed my first run of this game after mostly routing it myself. my choices led me to the formless ending. i just completed my run of the game with a 1:09 and i realized there is technically a final input you still need to do which is shoot the gun. would timing end on this input or on the door input as the other endings?
final input side, if going for formless is slower than the other endings then really the answer to this question is irrelevant.
the all endings rules make mention of this final input but the any% rules dont so i was just wondering which is it.
thanks!
for those unaware, quitting out generally means quitting to the main menu and reloading your game to skip certain sequences.
so i noticed that pretty much every end chapter sequence where you wait for the painting to change can be expedited by quitting out. i have some examples in the following youtube vid:
as you can see, this will save a stupid amount of time over whole run. initially i was just going to update the rules to say this isnt allowed but i figured the community, however small it is, should discuss it first. so here is that discussion.
what are all your thoughts on it? personally, since the run is technically RTA any%, it would be assumed that quitting out is allowed. however while it is indeed faster, i dont think it should be allowed because it doesnt seem to fit into the spirit of the game. it just seems like cheap time save as opposed to skillfully saving time throughout the run. further, the time saved fully depends on how fast your computer is. on my pc with an ssd, load times are pretty instant. this would punish runners with lower end pcs.
the 'community' in this game tends to consist of 2-4 people at any given time. nonetheless, i ask what you all think. if this thread doesnt gain much traction, i will update the rules to clarify that quitting out is not allowed in the run.
As of 09/13/2018
timing was originally supposed to stop when the screen fades to black and the credits roll.
no one on the leader board really followed this as everyone split at some arbitrary point after pulling down the sheet on the final painting.
timing now will end upon the final input which causes the player to lose control for the last time (triggers the final cutscene). for 99% of people this would make their runs about .5-1.5 seconds faster.
i do not intend to manually retime each run. if anyone specifically wants their run retimed, feel free to hit me up on discord and ill take care of it.
hey. i changed the leaderboards a bit to accommodate the DLC. no one seems to run it, so i decided to be the first.
the categories are now any% for the main game and any% the DLC. each category is separated between PC and consoles.
hope to see some runs on the board!
obviously people going for the fastest times run the japanese version because of less text or whatever.
lets say two runs had the same input/rng/etc cept one was in english and the other in japanese. what type of time save are we looking at here?
