Hey everybody!
Earlier today we posted some tweets, and I've personally been discussing with some people over in Discord this afternoon.
As said in the title, we're launching a new and updated Speedrun site next week, the result of nearly a year's work to address major bugs, improve features, and make the website more accessible to everyone. I'm gonna be posting all the same details I've posted on Twitter inside this thread as well for those of you who don't have Twitter or aren't in our Discord :)
For now, gonna keep this thread locked just until I can get all the feature details posted at which point I'll unlock it so we can discuss - but of course feel free to discuss beforehand as well!
P.S. Thread is now unlocked! Site is being released soon :)

New article is up about the recent Imgur announcement, TLDR some guides or forum posts with embedded images on SRC may be affected.

Also, if you believe there is another service you would recommend over the ones I’ve put in the article here - please let me know :) We can open a discussion about what best alternatives there are, and perhaps I’ll make some edits to the article.
Hey everyone :)
You may have noticed the numbers on the /games page are significantly higher than they were just yesterday.
As it turns out, the old algorithm to determine Active Players did not account for IL runners (and some other stuff) - this has now been fixed!
You will also notice that player stats will match up between the /games page and any respective leaderboard :)
Enjoy your weekend everybody!

Hey everyone! In the last couple of weeks, we’ve been receiving a lot of valuable feedback from everyone who participated in both beta stages. Today, we’re announcing that these leaderboard updates are now public for everyone to use! Before we dive into the details, I’d like to take a moment to thank each and every one of you for trying it out and letting us know what you think! Your feedback is monumental, and we value it tremendously.
Also as a note, if you've read my previous forum post about the leaderboard beta - much of what I've written below will be repeated!
For those who haven’t seen any of our previous pieces about the leaderboard update, let me give a recap of what you can expect from this update as well as future ones!
We’re trying out a new design with the Category & Sub-Category header which brings back the classic category display with some visual tweaks and a new method of handling misc runs. On top of this, we’ve created a new interface for filters that will support our future development work, which will allow you to select multiple values of a single variable at one time!
Previously, you could only select one value to filter by at a time, but now you can now filter by multiple values of a single variable! For example, if you have a variable for platforms with the values of Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X, PS5, and PC - you could only filter to view one value at a time previously. Now, you can for instance view runs from Nintendo Switch and PC at the same time but exclude Xbox and PS5 if you want :) We have also added a new implementation of Date Filtering that fits seamlessly within the new Filters modal!
With the latest update, you can now link directly to specific sub-categories, or even the rules page of any category/sub-category! For those of you who have had your hands on this functionality during the first release of this beta, you may notice that the URLs have been updated to be a bit more human-readable for your convenience. Backwards compatibility with the old URL format is now also supported, e.g. /mc#Any.
This update is primarily focused on backend improvements to vastly increase speed for leaderboards large and small. We have also included an overhaul of the table component, focused on creating a better experience for leaderboards with lots of variables and lots of runs, across all devices. This includes the addition of pagination to leaderboards. No more worries about loading leaderboards with more than 1000 runs!
The entire Speedrun.com team is excited to hear your feedback surrounding this update so we can use it to help shape future changes in this area.
Coming up next, we still have lots of feedback from our UI/UX interviews we did earlier this year that we're excited to bring to life moving forward. This will include UI improvements to the game info area to emphasize important information like community site/discord links. We also have planned improvements to the category/variable navigation area, as well as improving the tooling to create categories/variables from the moderator side of things. This will include but is not limited to allowing moderators to choose if sub-categories get displayed in the dropdown format or the classic “pill” format. Of course, we are always working towards better performance across the site - so you can expect some speed increases too.
Please leave any and all feedback you have below, we're excited to hear from you!
Hey everyone! In the last couple of weeks, we’ve been receiving a lot of valuable feedback from our Supporters - and we’re excited to now announce that anyone can access this beta! Before we dive into the details, if you want to try it out for yourself you can head on over to https://www.speedrun.com/settings/betas
This leaderboard update is still in its early stages, so we are first putting it into beta first. If you have any feedback - leave it in the replies below!

On top of this, we’ve created a new interface for filters that will support our future development work, which will allow you to select multiple values of a single variable at one time! Coming sometime next week we will have a newly updated Filter By Date feature! We know this is an important feature, especially for those world record progression videos we all know and love - so we’re excited to bring this back to you new and improved in an update very soon :)
Even further ahead, we still have lots of feedback from our UI/UX interviews we did earlier this year that we're excited to bring to life moving forward. This will include UI improvements to the game info area to emphasize important information like community site/discord links. We also have planned improvements to the category/variable navigation area, as well as improving the tooling to create categories/variables from the moderator side of things. Hey Supporters :) Today we are pushing the first leaderboard page update into beta for all of you to get your hands on! This update is largely focused on backend improvements to vastly increase speed for leaderboards large and small. We have also included an overhaul of the table component, focused on creating a better experience for leaderboards with lots of variables and lots of runs, across all devices.
The leaderboard update is still in its early stages, which is why we are putting it into beta first. The entire Speedrun.com team is excited to hear your feedback surrounding this update so we can use it to help shape future changes in this area. This update takes into account the battle that is function versus form, and we're striving to find the best balance between the two so we can have a page that both looks great and is still easily navigated when its densely populated.
As for whats ahead, we still have lots of feedback from our UI/UX interviews we did earlier this year that we're excited to bring to life moving forward. This will include UI improvements to the game info area to emphasize important information like community site/discord links. We also have planned improvements to the category/variable navigation area, as well as improving the tooling to create categories/variables from the moderator side of things.
Please leave any and all feedback you have below, we're excited to hear from you!
As far as I know, there are no useful glitches for the speedrun
Also, there's a typo in "glitches" under the rules for the Glitchless category
If there are useful glitches for the Any% category, IMO the Glitchless category should specifically state what they are and mention what is and is not allowed
So I'm currently learning the run and I got to Basement Storage and was REALLY struggling even on the easiest difficulty and I couldn't for the life of me figure out why. On a hunch, I decided to cap my framerate at 60 FPS - I got through with no issue. Capped at 15 FPS - got through without a scrape on me lmao.
So yeah, I guess maybe just cap at 60 or something? xD Playing at 90 FPS wasn't bad either, but when I was uncapped around 400-500 FPS... damn near impossible lol.
Hey all! First of all, I want to give a massive thanks to everyone for the amazing feedback on our current round of beta features - we’re excited to be pushing these into public access right now! Let’s take a peek at these shiny new features.
As a Supporter, you can now group games together! (Note, this is the only part of this update exclusive to Supporter - the rest of Game Ordering is free for all)
Once games have been grouped, you can rename them, assign them a color and best of all…
You can now Drag & Drop games within Game Ordering! Sort by “Custom” and you can organize your runs to your hearts content! This makes it much easier to organize your profile :) If you have games grouped together, you can even adjust the position of entire run groups!
Also please keep in mind, this Drag & Drop feature is actually going to be rolled out where appropriate across the site once it's ready. This means that potentially any place with a “list” (levels, categories, variables, etc) which is currently using up and down arrows for navigation, will have drag and drop ordering implemented as well - exponentially increasing the ease of modifying these lists.
Featuring a run lets you pin a preview of the run up at the top of your profile. You can feature one full game run, and one individual level run!
They don’t have to be PBs either, if for whatever reason you’d like to feature an old obsolete run that you’re more proud of - you can do that as well. :)
In the last month, we have reflected on about two years worth of feedback surrounding the current Speedrun.com leaderboard experience and sent out a survey created by our UX Designer (big thank you to those who filled that out!). We are now full steam ahead on the leaderboard rework! For those of you who have taken part in our UX interviews, thank you so much once again! They were a massive help.
Although nothing is concrete yet, Supporters can also expect some fresh new beta features to play with shortly if that’s something you’re interested in!
Hey! Is there any plans to support the Steamfest Demo?
Hey! I was wondering if maybe we could add some other freeplay categories like Time Trial, but also maybe All Pins and stuff like that :)
Here's my run of the Time Trial, I barely made it lol (The Time Trial timing would need to be ascending btw, cause the more time you have left on the clock the faster you were)

Hey everyone! Quick update about Supporter and the current Featured Run beta feature :)
First of all, I’d just like to thank you all for the incredible feedback we received recently about Supporter, leaderboards, and of course the new beta features! Let’s get into the update notes, and then we can talk about them. :)
• You can now feature one Full Game run, and one Individual Level run on each of their respective pages. • It is now easier to remove the currently selected Featured Run • You can now search for games within the Featured Run section, making it much easier to find the run you’re looking for • It is now possible to feature obsolete runs • Corrected copy in cases where there was only one run associated with a game • Exposed Supporter icon/animation to the API • Fixed a bug where variables would not show in the Featured Run preview • The save button is now much more accessible, so you no longer need to scroll to the bottom of the page to save your changes
There’s a point here I’d like to expand upon - the new save button. This is currently only contained to these beta features, but we have plans to implement these quality of life changes where applicable across the entire site once we’re confident with the level of polish. This means that all forms where saving is required will have this new “floating” save button, making the forms easier to modify.
While we start moving the development team more and more into our leaderboard rewrite, we are also going to be implementing much of your feedback about the Game Ordering beta feature in the coming weeks :)
The team is working to improve the design of leaderboards and is looking to collect your feedback.
Please take this survey to share your thoughts with us!
We are also recruiting participants of this survey to share more direct feedback during a 30-minute interview over video call. Participants will receive 1 free month of Supporter access in exchange for their time.
