I played this classic game of my childhood these last weeks and decided to throw a speedrun before leaving it... surprised again no more runs float around since the inception of the leaderboard...

I think the categories can be updated to ask for different things, instead of two categories for the time factor, with deaths or deathless (which seems kinda possible but I doubt someone will put the grind to do it). So as this:

  1. Any%/100% ---> Actual recruits%, normal full run beating the game with or without deaths, with or without saves/passwords. Pure time rules. As the run of Anko or mine recently.

(never knew this game had saves, my cartridge back then and the one I emulated now both are with passwords)

  1. Recruits% ---> Full normal run but wins he who beats the game with more recruits in his last phase screen, previous to beat the game. No passwords/loads allowed. Then just in case of draw, up the fastest.

  2. Try again% ---> Full normal run but wins he who had less Try Agains during his run (doesn't matter if for death or surrender). Password/loads allowed if runner like it. Then in case of draw, up the fastest.

One same run can be used for various categories but it's up to the runner to declare it, attain to rules and put the data and/or time stamps to help the modding.

While the runs will still be long, I think this will give more options to run for at least.

Well, I finally beat all Blue Level 3 RTA and triggered credits of the game, apparently for the first time ever done on video/stream... so I'll explain some minor changes done from this point of view:

*Blue levels 1 and 2 doesn't trigger credits nor say "the end", so even their "bad ending" status is debatable at least... thus I changed them to just Blue Level% and that's it, anyone can take of that what they will...

*Also, a Blue level 1 full campaign% is definitely RTA viable... I started mapping the run and it do will have highly probable annoying segments when the RNG decides to turn weirdly adverse and crush strats or even scenarios... but the speedrun is possible and prolly can be around the 7/8 hour mark...

*I kinda understand now Captain Ninja that the win% is definetely not the most "representative" category of this game... but still has a point to exist, so lets leave it but just moved out of the front...

*Also in this field, the Raw Any% category is the most fresh and representative of the game: it goes directly into getting the credits and while it last its due time, stil isn't that large to be unrunnable, and by now has a lot of room for diverse strats and improvements...

So, future:

If/when more runs of Win% arise (lets say at least 2 or 3 more), miliseconds can be aggregated (mainly for use in this category and no much more)

If/when someone drops a full blue level run, that category should be moved if not to the forefront, second at least...

That's it

Well that, I finished BL 1 full campaign and tested some next blue levels scenarios and they seem pretty over the top, some seems kinda beatable (not that i could) but others are simply insane...

Are there any proof somewhere of someone beating levels of them??

-- o --

Also, i think the any% category as it is now should be changed, it is kinda a "100%" or full campaign the requisites... any% as in other games "fastest way to get the credits in any form" should be just put the password of Blue Level 3 last scenario and beat it...

Blue Level 1 and 2 don't give you credits apparently, they are kinda just "bad endings"...

Other interesting option could be put "Blue Level 1 any%", "Blue Level 2 any%" and "Blue Level 3 any%" to just put the passwords and beat the last scenarios to trigger their endings...

Whatever path is taken, any% as it is now is unrunable for the brutal duration and not only human gameplay errors but RNG crushing many scenarios and time.

I welcomed the recent incorporation of this category this year in Road Rash 2, which was also put in Road Rash 1 of genesis...

I think it's fun and incorporates the other side of this game, which is the beatings and forced crashes of other bikers while racing (and qualifying)...

I don't know what the mods think of opening this category here... I think we can almost copy paste the rules of RR2 with interesting results, maybe just using the full races time (instead of cutting when the last KO arrives) since there's no IGT available inside the races...

If mods like the idea I can work a run (in PS version) to start the category...

I grinded a couple days this level until I took notice that, unlike Big Game mode, Trash Mode ask you to not wreck or be busted at all because you lose all qualifications... which as any RR player knows, in Level 5 is something insane to ask...

In YT I found no videos of anyone beating it...

Unless I'm missing some key strat, which I doubt, I think this is only RTA viable with Game Shark cheats or further with save states...

Thoughts?

Hi guys, I'm not gonna contest an already verified run but isn't it weird or even sad that the best run, of the most played category, the game is in silence and it's with external music???

A shame since Road Rash 3 in particular has a top5 soundtrack of all the console I'd say... In other notorious games, as Super Metroid or Sonic 2 for example, the game's audio is absolutely mandatory for the runs...

I understand that in the grind you start to grow tired, but that comes with the territory...

Also in the other hand, I saw that with dozens of hours playing level 1, my sum of best is 13.17.9/13.18.0, doesn't even reach the WR... and 2nd place Anko's sum of best, as noted in his run, also doesn't even reach the WR... well, who knows, I'll leave it at that...

But I do suggest the game's audio be mandatory for future runs...

As a ramification of the Rash Mode thread and exploring other aspects of the game other than just the racing aspect, I suggested this category: "lawless%" or "reckless%", left to mods to decide the ultimate name.

I can't recall if it was this road rash or the 3rd that it's final level was one against pure cops, thus the game definetely plays with that confronting legality aspect (as GTA and other games will continue to do further in gaming history).

To the pure racing aspect of speed/time and administration of the RNG elements in the roads, the mandatory beat up adds an interesting dose of RNG and "farming" to it.

So well, taking the rules from the recently rash mode:

-Beat a full level with 1 officer/cop knock-out in each qualified race. -Time starts when you press start in whatever is your 1st race. -Time ends when you qualify your last race of the level. -RTA time count first. -Level 1 standard bike to start, no passwords allowed. -Can buy a different bike if you want after you earn the money to purchase one. -You can select any track from the 5 to start (doesn't have to be Alaska). -All knock offs must be visible to count. Crashing against cars allowed only if its by a player's kicks.

Enjoy.

I already made a first run, it's uploading to YT by now...

That. The runs don't appear on the game to verify but I get to them from my profile, 'pending actions' segment.

I get in them, click on the 'verify' item and this sign appears:

"Error You do not have permission to verify this run."

...does it have solution or I should repost them all?

PD: in case anyone is interested, game is Dune 2000.

... and will, don't know if its too much work, but I strongly suggest split the PS1 and PC as categories apart.

I started running the game a couple of days ago in PS emulator, as I played it back then in console, and noted a lot of relevant differences between the pc and console version:

  • In ps1 there are mandatory re spawns of civs when killed, in both pc speedruns here haven't got any.
  • Absolutely different opening of windows and loading times, different interface of options...
  • Different options of customization from what i gathered, so that also changes the game.

Also:

  • No premade% category possible in PS1.
  • Cheats% category are also different in pc and console (only 2 cheats available from what i searched, still not interested in this category).

May be other things but these still make the picture...

I already got a decent any% run now, now i'm into large% or deity%, when I'd get a decent run of one of those I'll upload them.

Regards

Hi, what's the point of asking for the password shown in the video clip of the speedrun? I don't get it and find pretty annoying to reset and put the password again and again, during the grind... when you can just cut the recording and start another again, from the race #1... I do think it's neccesary to show the bike you're using and the five races unqualified, but don't know what's the point of the password...
