OK, I'll see what I can do. What do you use for retiming? Anything's got to be better than VLC Media Player and frame advance.
Could you send me the video file for your Any% run? (If you don't have it on your home PC, you can download from YouTube, remember)
Unfortunately, Bowser moves at the same speed as Mario, and that section essentially autoscrolls, so that strat doesn't work
If you really want to, you could always use something like VirtualBox, run Windows 7 or something (or even Ubuntu and use Wine) and see if that works. Of course, also try basic things like not using full screen etc. just to eliminate all possibilities
Hm. See if Google (or Bing or whatever) can tell you how to un-use DirectPlay - or search in Settings for 'turn windows features on and off' or something similar
Well... When you run it, does it ask for DirectPlay or whatever (or did it the first time)? It might not work properly without that
So... Are we going to define some rules for the categories or not? I came up with some ideas in another thread
Turns out not only does NSMB work in Windows XP, it's compatible with Hourglass! This means someone (probably me) can make a TAS, possibly including 1-cycle (if I can ever get it to work)
Dang. It looks really complex, and Cheat Engine didn't help much with memory values. Also, meme category: Cheat Engine speedhack.
Do you think we should make/get an autosplitter for LiveSplit? I can't get my head round how to code it, but someone on the Internet might be able to.
Do you definitely have the right version of the game? (As in, did you download it from MFGG?)
It can take a lot of resources (I've lost so many WR pace runs to lag) so make sure you have a fast processor etc. Also if you can help it don't play on Windows 10, you lose about 50% of your PC's CPU to 'System'
Any%: Complete the game as fast as possible, from the beginning to the end. Timing is from the first frame Mario appears <turns out there is RNG, don't put this bit of text in the actual thing> to the first frame of his flagpole animation. Softlock%: Softlock the game by entering the car before it stops. Timing is from the first frame of Mario moving <RNG doesn't apply> to the frame Mario disappears from view and the game softlocks. <These are the timings I use> <Technically it's not RNG it's just everything is on a timer, but whatever>
Also (derp question) do you do the accurate timing by just watching the video through?
Also: I think you should start and load the game, then start moving and timing at the same time, because some people don't have perfect reflexes. There's not really any RNG so this shouldn't matter too much.
