I just bought a new cartridge of super metroid, it is the US version. maybe im doing the horizontal bomb jumps incorrectly but i lay my first bomb, wait. lay my second. im blown up in the air lay my third. everything is solid. i go the direction i want. but maybe half a second after my third and last bomb goes off. and all explosions are done. no more bombs are out. i hit what seems to be an invisible wall. all my momentum goes to 0. occasionally it doesnt happen. one in every 20 id say. is my cartridge messed up or am i doing something wrong?

this is true @TalicZealot and yeah @strizer86 I've seen some really interesting stuff done with shop glitch stuff. this guy levels up and gets knockback from a red minotaur into a screen transition into where you get the laevaithan, and zips upwards cutting out a bunch of stuff heading towards balore.
i remember now lol i didnt know we allowed that in certain routes thats pretty cool actually
im not sure what debug is ive heard the term before and im sure google could tell me lol but in the context of castlevania
we can delete this thread if we would like im in the process of making the tutorial
I need some help with this tricky stunt. I can do it, and in fact have a 15 minute 1 star run, but i feel for me to lower that time i will 1 need to work on optimizing movement, and 2 consistency of the SBLJ. Any advice would be cool, or just general conversation about the trick. anything you may have noticed that either helps, or that doesnt help so i can rule it out. i wouldnt consider this a tutorial as ive seen every tutorial on youtube, more so just little details to make it a bit more consistent. one main question is once im stuck on the wall when do i want to stop backwards long jumping? ive heard oh when the camera shakes, when the camera drops, etc, however the camera is constantly shaking and lowering lol.
Any interest in a new run? think the title is pretty self explanatory but yeah a soma all bosses excluding the 0 hp glitch. I would like to run this personally as i get maybe 1 in 100 runs making it past balore with the 0 hp glitch. reset city, literally is not a fun category for me. anywho if it has enough support it would be a cool little route. something new? liven this group back up. could be cool, maybe not. lets do it!
That makes so much sense @SilentLaws I appreciate the breakdown and insight and now I fully understand WHY IT NEVER WORKED lol. Thanks again man.
awesome, yeah francesso thats exactly what i did haha, thanks for the input. I did however figure out how to add a timer just now on youtube. theres something called snaz that adds timing effects to OBS and im sure whatever recording software you may use. a little intimidating at first glance but a youtube video or two and youll understand it in no time. thanks again :)
I am new to speedrunning and have just gotten a capture card. I recorded a somewhat decent run and would like to upload it as my first run, but did not use a timer or anything. Am i good to go off the total video time as im not too worried about a couple of seconds lost and i will be working on more legit runs soon? How do i go about timing my runs in the future? thanks for the input and i look forward to figuring out how exactly i should time my runs since that is the whole point and premise of speedrunning to begin with lol. thanks again as always stay fancy
to answer your question fully and simply, the opening text box is a couple of seconds faster, and jolly roger bay has a star in it you shoot from a cannon and in the Japanese version the star is out in the open, in the US it is in a box requiring more of a precise cannon shot and two jumps one to open the box one to grab the star, whereas again Japanese is just cannon shot into the star. its like around the mountain corner thing so yeah. those two reasons are the main thinking behind running Japanese as apposed to US. Also generally speaking, Japanese letters/characters whatever they're called generally take less of than that of their English counterpart. essentially Japanese text 9/10 times will be quicker so games with lots of text box want to be ran on the Japanese version. I hope i cleared some things up if you have any more questions feel free to ask away.
the airport level, street skater goal to crook grind around the baggage claim. i run gamecube, NA regioned tony hawk pro skater 3. I have seen many runs using the switch crooked grind special move to complete the challenge and occasionally it will work for me. However more often than not it will not work. I have noticed if i get my sick score done it has a higher likely-hood of completing the challenge. but sometimes im just short and only get the pro score complete, resulting in 99% of the time the challenge not completing. i have tried going around just once, going around multiple times. with my friends ticket for the other challenge, with out the ticket. All sorts of variations of this goal and have not found a sure way of completing it 100% of the time. has anybody else had this issue? could it just be a scratched disk or something as stupid as that? It is quite annoying as the run becomes extremely unoptimized because that particular spot i can get the sick score and the crook grind done all at one time. any feedback would be appreciated.
This is true if you know about the glitch you probably know how to pull it off, as you said it comes down to just having a feel for it and a bit of luck, mixed with practice. I have a capture card in the mail maybe I'll make the tutorial when it arrives.
So I decided on the I-o DATA GV USB2 capture card, there's actually an Amazon package deal thing for converter boxes double rca wires and the capture card all together for 60 bucks. Basically everything you need to get going. I will let everyone know how it works but as for now the reviews on said product is perfect 5/5 reviews left and right so I have high hopes. Thanks to all who helped especially who recommended the gv usb2.
I appreciate all the feedback I watched some videos on YouTube and read some reviews the elgato hd as well as the elgato hd60 can be used, however as previously mentioned Input lag is huge. You can change around settings and it will help however Idk the impact this will have. As a speedrunner my concerns are obvious, going for frame perfect tricks will be almost impossible or at the very least so inconsistent I won't want to run at all. I think I'm going to get standard rca capture card first as I mostly play retro games anyway. I will keep everybody updated and I'm still looking for recommendations on specific name brands. I do want to try out the elgato hd just to see how bad input lag is, but 150 dollars to test something out is a bit much for me atm
I'm assuming some emus are off limits due to save states/frame by frame control?
As I'm reading up on capture cards it has dawned on me, because of my gameplay style I will most likely need 2. One for my retro games using rca and one for new consoles using HDMI. Are there universal capture cards that can capture both quality or will I need two separate capture cards?
Ah cool I never knew that I thought different consoles were put in basically their own sub category. Seems kinda unfair. I've noticed at least for Mario 64 Japanese version is a bit quicker for 120 star but actually loses time for both 0/1 star as well as 16 star runs. I guess it does fall into the category of game knowledge so yeah, it could get messy if you started separating consoles played and versions ect. I guess I just assumed because I saw they listed that information. To the side.
