Emulator Rules
Last Revision: 09/29/2020 Format Update: 5/08/2022
This post highlights the conditions and rules of the use of emulators within the SSX 3 speedrunning community. Furthermore, it will provide detail on all acceptable terms of use, as well as any limitations and/or conditions that may be put in place by the community to ensure fairness between emulator and console.
By submitting a run using emulator the runner must abide by the following:
Emulator Settings • PCSX2 and Dolphin are the only allowed emulators
• The emulator must maintain consistent FPS comparable to console play. (60 FPS for NTSC - 50 FPS for PAL) Any major drop in FPS that causes lag (especially at crucial performance areas) may be grounds to invalidate a run for leaderboard purposes.
• Submitted runs that alter or replace game files in any way (including textures) will be declined.
Input Display • Emulator runs that claim top 3 standing require a controller camera or input display. Example input display (Use browser source in OBS): https://gamepadviewer.com/
Save States • Runners may not abuse the emulator save state function for the purpose of resetting runs or during a run to get a better time. Save states should only be used for testing and routing purposes.
Extra • If at some point in the future the SSX 3 community decides that emulators are no longer acceptable for runs, all runs that are on emulator may be invalidated and removed from the leaderboards.
• RTA runs have console and emulators split into different categories
• Should a new advantage be discovered on emulator only, it will be up to the SSX 3 community to decide how to handle the situation in the fairest manner possible for both console and emulator players.
• New players submitting emulated times may be required to prove their skill level through hand-cam video footage or streaming a run at a similar level to their submitted run.
