There are a few vague points to Mario Cam RTA that I'd like clarified. First, for the Mario cam rule, is it that you need to be in Mario cam before moving?
Second, what do you do if you accidentally Lakitu cam or forget after a warp or area load? Is the run over, or can you just restart the star you're currently on?
There isn't a hard rule for any of this. As long as you are switching to mario cam quickly after you are able to and don't seem to be trying to gain an advantage you're fine. If you accidentally lakitu cam just switch it back, you'll most likely lose time messing around with the camera anyways.
Ideally, we would commission a gameshark code or something that switches to Mario cam c-down as soon as possible.
So purposefully waiting until Mario is fully landed and controllable to get a good long jump angle just after switching to Mario cam, as done in WF to get onto the tree (seen in Thomkar's WR), is acceptable?
Thomkar and I were talking about what should be allowed and what shouldn't be allowed in a run. The reason we thought it was justified to do that in a run was because Mario isn't actually actionable until after the switch to mario-cam is done.
Alot of the rules are left up to the interpretation of the moderators verifying the run because this category isn't very popular. Here are some of the rules I go by when I run this category:
- Not allowed to use lakitu cam to influence the starting camera before mario becomes actionable
- Must be in Mario-cam before Mario is able to move
- If you make a mistake and don't go into M-cam immediately then its ok if its less than a few seconds
- If you realize you've been playing a whole section of a level (~6-10 secs) in lakitu cam then I try to kill myself and restart the star asap.
