Hello, I have an idea for a new category ectension in Super Mario 64. I would name it "16 Basement Stars", and the title basically says everything. Its just an normal 16 Star run, but you don"t collect the red coins in Bowser in the dark world and go with 0 Stars in the Basement. Then it should be clear what to do. Do you think people would be interested in that?

is just a slower and inconsistency route, you can do it in standard 16 star, but your time is not going to be good obviously

Into the basement with 0 stars has never been possible

I know it's slower, but 16 star no LBLJ is slower too, but its cool. It would just be a funny category extension like 45 star or most of the other category extensions

It seems a bit too arbitrary to me, but if you ever do a run of it, I would check it out.

you could do a run like that but making it a separate category is completely pointless. if i had to guess you'd be lucky to get sub 25 with that route

I got a 21:25 with that and I played really bad in that run, so i think a good player could get a 16:30 or something

I think it would turn into a category that would die within 1-2 months. I could be wrong on that though, but considering past extra categories that's what happened.

Well it would be a sub category and not alot of ppl are interested in them but imo it never hurts to add a category if some ppl wanna speedrun it

Well, this thread is 3 weeks old and basically half a person has shown interest in this. I'd say interest is quite low.

Too low to warrent it getting it's own category on the category extensions board at least. If you wanna run this just go for it.

Concerning your point about 16 Star No LBLJ being a thing: I am not too familiar with the SM64 history, but it is either a legacy category (if LBLJ was found after 16 Stars was already a thing) or it is to give runners who need a break from LBLJ (which is a trick that can become really frustrating, resetting over and over again right after watching the intro for a whole minute) a way to run a short category and still compete about something.

Also this kind of categories are already a thing, sometimes you'll see people doing upstaris rta or something like that, and the reason it doesnt have a leaderboard its because those kind of runs are seen as more of a practice run

I mean, I know it would be pointless, but many category extensions are pointless and they're fun. Just for example all signs is a pointless category, Mario-Cam RTA is pointless, but people have fun with that.
