Hello, I just submitted a run of Episode 1 in 48 seconds. However, I was very confused because I did three seconds better overall than BK in the stages themselves, yet fell four seconds behind. Should we change timing to use in-game time, where you add up the times of each of your stages, producing the final time? For example, my time would be 12 + 20 + 7 = 39, whereas BK's time would be 12 + 21 + 9 = 42. I feel that this change is needed to eliminate the differences in the end screens of the ports, and to make the run as skill-based as possible. Retiming runs would not be that difficult.
Edit: I have all the runs retimed for episode 1, if we agree on this rule.
nah I tied you even with garbage load times i'm just better
this leaderboard just needed rule updates and an individual level category and the mods weren't active so yeah
load times are apart of the run, just because you can't beat the WR doesn't mean you get to add rules and cheese a WR, your time is 44 seconds, not 38.
Loads are the one part of speed-games that people should always try to eliminate, not everyone has access to the best hardware/software, so removing loads makes it fair for everyone. People go out of their way to make autosplitters for this reason. If you have faster load times that gets you a WR, that says nothing about your skill at the game, just how powerful a PC you own or what port you purchased. Skill is what should be demonstrated in speedruns. Every other game on this engine uses in-game time, and I don't see why this should be any different. I don't want this to be a big issue, it's just a meme bible game, I just feel the rule change makes sense. My record is totally beatable, both with and without loads. I was a bit uncouth before because I thought this was clear, I thought your "run faster" comment was more of a joke than a serious issue with the suggestion. If you can give me a valid reason for the loads to stay other than "that's how it always has been" then I will be inclined to change it back. Right now, however, I don't see any.
