On the current timing method (In-game Time), PAL(50HZ) has a clear advantage over NTSC(60HZ). It allows you to play at the fraction of normal speed with no penalty, which makes the multitude of tricks in the run objectively easier to perform.
Both being paired against each other just isn't fair, so it was decided to not allow PAL. NTSC is default due to it being the intended framerate for the game, as well as the more readily avaliable version.
This is also for future insurance as well. While Sonic 2 hasn't had a case where top times performed on PAL are common, it was best to nip it in the bud before the leaderboards could get to that point, which could complicate the integrity of the speedrun even further.
Welp, a PAL category would probably be a good idea for this, albeit with RTA-TB timing rather than IGT.
There isn't enough people to make a PAL category, it would be a leaderboard with like 3 people which aren't enough to request a category 🤓
As an outsider, im against this rule. It
s never a good decision to just delete existed runs.
I can understand that you dont want them to be against each other because of noticeable differences, but you can just make separate boards. And, for real, speedrunning means that you choosing most favorable way to speedrun the game, so you can choose language, version (downpatching also), platform etc. It`s debatable how to place them (separately or not) from the game to the game but ffs just deleting?
The runs that were deleted were nowhere near historical times or competitive times. There is also absolutely zero need for a separate board when there are 4 total times that are PAL. You also admit that you are an outsider, so I'm not sure why you feel you have a stake in the argument here. Sonic 1 only has a PAL board with one total run on it because someone chose to get WR with it, which was scrutinized right away, and PAL was banned over 2 years ago. We did not want the same case to occur in Sonic 2.
Again, like what was stated above, all these games were designed and developed in NTSC regions, not PAL. If there were different glitches in PAL, your point of choosing the best version would make sense, however, PAL has identical glitches and is much harder to obtain than NTSC. This decision is final.
There is no need for a seperate board because there is no demand for one. If there are a multitude of PAL runners that suddenly spring up (and ask for a board) then we will create one. Because no one runs on PAL, it is also the less preferable version for the game compared to NTSC which is smother to play and is the version most people have. Majority of these runs are also low leaderboard times that are multiple years old so it makes more sense to just remove them rather than create a board that no one will submit to.
I just placed my own opinion. I didnt ask for taking a place at this decisions. Whatever, it seems like you guys dont need anyone opions , so do what you need.

For the longest time, the individual level leaderboards didn't distinguish weither or not you performed them Glitched or Glitchless. So for a majority of levels, Glitched always came out on top if you wanted to achieve top rankings. But now levels will be separated depending on play-style, with a co
