Choosing the right sidekick will likely improve your time.
In the early game the best one is the Ostwitch (Savana 2) and grants the rider "Ridden animals are 15% faster".
The best overall is the Pandurian (Great Wall 4) and grants the rider "Ridden animals are 20% faster" and also "Jump from animals 8% faster" that helps in the 10 Animals Rode%
