So, I’ve been seeing posts about the new rule…

And I propose a solution. Why not time runs using IGT instead of RTA? That way, the mods can still have players sit through cutscenes, but it won’t impact the runners in a negative way (and since @KrazyBossYT mentioned in a post of his own that using RTA with the new rule includes time stuck watching cutscenes, I figured I’d mention this — cutscenes do NOT add to the in-game timer).

Will this mean all 8 moderators going through every category (full game and the 130 IL categories) just to retime everything from RTA to IGT? Yes. However, I feel like this would be a change that would appease everyone at the end of the day.

(My mistake — forgot that there’s no IGT in Wonder. Still think the new rule is dumb, though.)

Oh. My mistake, Mozilla.

I still think it’s kind of stupid that this new rule exists though, especially since almost every other speedrunning community for a Mario platformer has used the tradition of starting the timer once the player gets control over the titular character and stopping the timer once the final boss has been defeated (or reaching the clear condition in ILs).

Even though IGT does not exist for this game, it exists like black-shadow describes for EVERY OTHER Mario game. EVERY Mario game with an IGT from the first mario game has been like that. Also, like i said in my post, the cutscenes add 14 SECONDS to the level. There was no reason to use RTA as it just causes annoyance, especially when certain levels shift between requiring you to go back to the map and enter the level every time you retry, or requiring you to use the restart button.

United States
  1. all levels require starting from a restart

  2. How high you land on the flagpole or whether or not you have water in your trunk decide how much time the ending cutscene takes.

Please stop ranting btw lmao

How high you land does affect how much time it takes the end cutscene to play out.

"Please stop ranting btw lmao" Kid it's the forums do you not expect ranting?

We previously debated the best way to time ILs when setting up the leaderboard, and the current ruleset is what we settled on.

This is a document shared in the discord server explaining many of the rules: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1MGry2Tc3_GqgDbEeStwieIAbqyMjEkp8RB-51fNO98Q/edit

We haven't proposed any sort of "new rule"; I'm not exactly sure what that refers to, but we aren't planning on changing anything at this time.

@JoshTGR the "new rule" they are referring to is the new timing for IL's.

@JoshTGR Wait, so these rules were settled on when the leaderboards were being made?

That's definitely an oopsie on my part then. I apologize - I can't change the thread title.

@Black-Shadow No, I think he just got confused. I'm most likely sure that it was a new rule.

ok? super mods can get confused sometimes. i literally heard from another mod that they had to invalidate 40+ runs due to the new rule. if it isnt a new rule then i guess it is just a huge misunderstanding lmao.

Thats not new rule the rule existed from when the board came out and if you didnt do by the new rules thats yours problem the mods stated the rules many times
