Hey... It's lonely here... This game has been one of my favourites since childhood. A lot of games proved to be too difficult when I was 8 so I ditched them, but this one (despite not being too casual-friendly imo) captivated me enough to grind it until I nailed the hardest levels. Too bad I didn't have a company of friends with the same passion as mine to compete with. And 8-player version of this seems hella fun. Years later, I found out that an online PS1 emulator exists. I tried to persuade my foreign friend with whom I played CTR online to try Micro Maniacs, but he didn't think it was worth his time. And, I mean, CTR is probably the deepest and most fun racing game I know, but MM is still good in its own way. So, for a couple of years I just thought this game was undeservedly under the radar. Now that I googled it properly, I see a couple of records on this and some other sites, so that's at least something. Here is my recording from some time ago when I used a cheat that makes AI opponents go faster: Recently I made a character tier list. Would love to hear other players' opinion on this. https://tiermaker.com/list/video-games/micro-maniacs-127950/842412 All in all, I made this thread to detect anyone who still plays this game, to discuss something or maybe even play online if possible. Other than that, a guide has been in the works for years but I didn't get to finish it. Also I may provide some track records in the future.
same, it's a shame this game is really obscure among racing communities, but it's a really fun game. I've started to play this again after years (since I was a kid maybe) and I'm having a blast learning the game. I'm gonna route and learn the most I can from this game and get a good time here
I'm interested in doing a run at some point and getting in on some Micro Maniacs hype.
Wondering if there should be some clarification on rules regarding persistance & power up levels.
Should you be limited to starting ordinary challenge runs with 2/2 power or is 4/4 also ok? The most recent runs do start with some power already unlocked, though from skim watching don't think the extra power was ever utilised anyway.
Similar question to unlocking one of the 4 characters and using those, assuming you can unlock the characters without blocking access to "mice n easy"; are any of those allowed and/or even relevant?
Does anyone know if any characters are faster than others? Was thinking of using V4, pyra seems to be used in challenge runs; looks roughly same speed to me so guess personal preference. I only remember Waldo feeling slower, but could be wrong.
Also I'm guessing it's possible to do a challenge run followed by an all challenge tracks run in the same session, unless I'm missing something?
I've had a couple questions about some of the rules, as well. I recently inherited moderation of these leaderboards as the previous moderator has gone inactive.
I just made a discord server for Micro Maniacs Speedrunning. We can discuss rulings and other guidelines there.
