The title is maybe a bit misleading lol. The game is not hot and has been out for like six months now. But I had to get you to click on the thread. Forgive me. This will be the last time I lie to you. Probably.
I'm an indie game dev with a game out on Steam called spec.
spec on Steam (steampowered.com)
Calling me "an indie game dev" is a bit generous. I'm a regular guy with a day job who makes dumb games for the joy of seeing others play them.
I think this most recent creation would make for a pretty sweet speedrun. It costs $3, but I view that more as a "recommended donation" than I do a true price. If you click the link and are interested in playing, but don't have $3 (or if you have $3 but don't want to give it to me), you can hit me up and I'll provide a Steam Key.
I'm the current WR holder of my own game - which is kinda sad. What's even sadder is it's a garbage time filled with deaths and misplays. I feel like a sub-30 has to be possible, but I'm not sure I'll ever get it.
I'd love to get a full-blown community going where people break the game and we have to split into a "glitchless" and "any%" category and Summoning Salt eventually makes a YouTube video with the history of the WR and you guys become super famous spec streamers and I get super rich because of all the exposure it gets......... but I'd settle for a small community of cool people who have a casual meme-filled rivalry.
Truly, I think it would just be a blast to see some real speedrunners pick up the game and push it to its limits. I'd have fun watching it happen, and I know there are some people out there who would enjoy speedrunning the game. Check it out in Steam and let me know if you are one of those people.
Public Service Announcement: I've had a few people reach out, and they have all felt compelled to justify why they don't want to pay $3 for it before requesting a Steam Key. For what it's worth - you don't have to explain anything to me. You certainly may, and honestly, I hope you do, and you make up a reason that gets increasingly less believable the longer you type. If I get flooded with those, that'd be amazing.
But, truly, I'm happy to give my game to whoever wants to play it. A simple "I'd play spec if you gave me a key" will get you a key. My feelings will not be hurt and I will not be insulted or upset.
I did not get to read your message, steven. If it was a request for a key, feel free to DM me.
This forum doesn't seem to get a lot of traffic, so I'm just going to offer a gentle bump to let people know I still check this from time to time. Your DM might sit for a whole month, but I will read it eventually I promise.
Honestly, I'll try it, could be fun You said you have steam keys? I dont get paid for a little bit but once I do I could paypal or cashapp you the 3 later
You been providing keys to people and they haven't even bothered to do runs? If I find some time over the next few weeks I'll buy the game and do a run, looks pretty fun
I've seen both of you on the Discord since your posts. I check that much more often than here. If you want/need more keys, hit me up there.
Dude this isn't a good way to promote your game or speedrunning your game. I looked at the post and was initially interested in having a look. That was until I saw you kept bumping it and even potentially made a second account (Jared) in order to keep bumping it. One post and responding to people is fair enough, but why do you think you deserve the spotlight more than anyone else?
Due to this I 100% won't be playing it and I hope it makes you reflect on the way you're promoting, but I somehow doubt it.
Didn't make a second account, and I don't think I deserve the spotlight more than anyone else.
Your words have made me reflect, I just disagree. If I don't bump the post, it goes stale and within a couple months nobody ever sees it, despite the fact that I'm still here and the offer still stands. Or I could make a new thread for the same thing, I guess, but I think that's more obnoxious than bumping the existing one. There is certainly a frequency with which this becomes unacceptable - I acknowledge that. If I set up a bot to bump the thread every five minutes - obviously too much. Even a day or a week is probably too often. Once a month or so felt alright. Often enough to give new people a chance to read it, not so often that it is constantly burying active threads.
If a moderator tells me to stop, I immediately will. Until that happens, hopefully we can agree to disagree.
If you change your mind about playing let me know and I'll shoot you a key!
