Can one speedrun more than one game?

Maybe this is a really noob question, but it seems like a lot of speedrunners seem to run only one game.

And i am noob which still has to complete a run, but there are some games that i am interested in running because i find them fun, or i think they could make for a fun speedrun.

I know that it's best to really practice just one game a lot and perfect it, but i was wondering if it's a really bad idea to try to learn to speedrun two or three games at the same time?

Yes, one can do it. No, it's not a bad idea. Sure, obviously the best world records on the site come from grinding the same game thousands of times. Just do whatever you want.

Some people run one game because that game has a multitude of categories that it can take a long time to reach your goals (and often when you do, the routes improve and you can save time on older runs). Ocarina of Time is an example of this kind of game.

Other games might be shorter or not have as many categories, so often times people will runs games within the same series, same console, same type, etc. This is long way of saying that very few people only run one game. They may focus on just one game for an extended of period of time to reach their goal, everyone ends up running more than one game the longer they're involved in this hobby.

Great, i was just worried about the repetition since i won't be going for WR's so i am glad that it's not really such a bad idea to run more than one game.

Some speedrunners enjoy races more, and time doesn't matter (much) to them.

Some people might be specialists in their game/s of choice, and might be into or trying something else as well. For example Cheese05 being the WR holder of SM64 120 Star doing Ocarina of Time, and Clint Stevens who holds a record for 100% OoT doing SM64.

It's definetly ok! You can check out my profile for an example. Personally I like experiments and challenging myself to improve times in lots of different games, using strategies that others don't, rather than running the same game over and over to improve one specific category. It just comes down to what you like!
