Hello!
I started checking out speedrunning Arma 3 about a month ago and discovered some glitches early on that got me interested in routing.
Here's a run I finally decided to post:
This run was made possible by two glitches/exploits I discovered by accident. I haven't calculated how much these glitches shave off time but probably half an hour at least depending on execution.
When I started looking into doing these runs, I wanted to make time acceleration/deceleration easier by rebinding it to Shift + Mouse Wheel.
This had the unintended consequence of being able to accelerate time in cutscenes which normally are forced to normal speed. This saves times in a major way since you can now have every unskippable cutscene run at 4 times the speed at best.
During routing and practice I found another glitch which allows me to have dialogue not play. If you accelerate time at just the right moment, the game ignores dialogue sound files and moves onto the next dialogue immediately. If you spam time acceleration as fast as possible, you can skip a lot of the dialogue by brute forcing the glitch.
Essentially this can turn a minute of dialogue playback into 5 seconds of rolling text at the bottom left.
I spam time acceleration by flipping over my mouse and roll the wheel against my mouse mat. This gives me hundreds of inputs per seconds depending how fast I move the mouse. This doesn't force the skip every time as the dialogue trigger can still slip through in between inputs.
I have not submitted this yet since I didn't post my findings before doing the run.
So what are your thoughts on these glitches? I've named the run Any% but I realize that these glitches a big time save and perhaps controversial. Is it OK to submit as is?
Hi there!
I'm Dan, frequent speedrunners of this game won't have heard of me because I've only done a couple of Arma runs before ':D, if you're on the Discord server, you'll likely know that 23Banzaj is resigning from (most if not all of) their sr.c mod positions, and I've offered to take up Arma 3
