How to start speedrunning?

Hello! I have been watching speedrunning from the sidelines for a very long time and wanted this game to be the product of my first speedrun. However, I have never done any sort of speedrun before besides doing some attempts on mario kart 8 where I wanted to be a rainbow road runner (I wasn't very successful ( ' ._.) ). Any advice on what to do first? I've already completed the game and I'm attempting to do my very own 100% completion (not a run) as of right now. I have seen numerous videos by Linkus7 and PointCrow but I'm wondering if maybe this isn't the game I should start on. Any and all advice is highly appreciated!

Best way to start is by joining the discord, asking questions, and watching runs

I would reccomend you to start with Great Sky Island Runs. It's something that for now at least is the start of every "major" run (Mainboard). Personally I would get comfortable with that part as this will teach you some basic movement technique. From there on, I would decide by what you prefer to do. And as JDLM pointed out, if you are stuck go ask questions on Discord

@ramen2jpeg , If you want to start speed running, It would be good to start on a game that you are both familiar with, and a game that you enjoy. If you start running this game, I recommend running minigames as they are not too difficult to beat as of right now, and are short and to the point. Also, the advice JDLM gave was good too, by watching runs, you can learn a lot.
