Version Differences

For those who are looking to begin speedrunning The Witch's House, there are four different available versions to choose from. There is one variant of version 1.06 (English) and three variants of version 1.07 (English, Japanese, and German). All four of these versions can be found by following the links on the website http://the-witchs-house.wikia.com/wiki/The_Witch%27s_House_Wiki. With these different versions, there are four options to speedrun this game (unless, in the future, one of these versions become banned to run).
All three variants of version 1.07 have only one thing different. Other than the language of the text boxes, English 1.07, Japanese 1.07, and German 1.07 are the exact same game, with no other known differences. The Japanese language condenses many of their words into symbols, making their text boxes the smallest of the three. Therefore, if you were to run one of the three versions of 1.07, the Japanese version would be your fastest time. The text boxes in the German version are slightly longer than those found in the English version, making this the slowest of the three to run, with the English version in the middle.
Version 1.06, however, has many small changes between itself and all three versions of 1.07. In the order that they appear in the game, these changes include:

Floor 1:
In the room with the pile of presents in the bottom-right corner of a room, you can move to the bottom-left side of the pile to pick up the teddy bear. In version 1.07, you have to be in the top-right corner of the presents. Not only does this save steps, you will skip the animation of one of the presents falling to the floor.

In the room with the chef, you do not have to read the note on the desk in order to put the key in the soup. In version 1.07, you have to read this note. The note is three text boxes long with three lines each for a total of nine lines of dialog, making this slightly faster.

Floor 4:
In the room with the paintings and the pumpkins, after you have obtained the music sheet, the portrait chases you. In version 1.06, you cannot go through the space in the couch to your right. In version 1.07, you can. While moving to the left is the faster strat to use, moving to the right is considered a safer strat, and you do not have to wait until the portrait is two to three frames away from you

Floor 5:
When you have to receive the empty bottle and one of the skulls in the room with the toxic gas, both the skull and bottle are in two fixed points and will always be in the same drawers. In version 1.07, the skull can randomly be in any of the drawers. While this could potentially be faster if given good RNG, knowing exactly where the skull will be is the better payoff, in my opinion.

In the room after the one with the toxic gas, the door above will lead to a room with nothing but another door. In version 1.06, you have to enter a four-digit combination found by solving the problems located in the four corners of the room. In version 1.07, there is no combination, and the door opens after going through. This is the only instance in the game in which version 1.07 is faster than version 1.06.
