Are you interested in running The Smurfs 2? Here's some tips I discovered while speedrunning this game:

Characters: You can choose from a handful of different Smurfs in this game right off the bat and you can unlock more characters by collecting coins and beating certain bosses. Each Smurf has a different special move, Papa Smurf shoots a projectile that freezes enemies for example. Two Smurfs have moves that make movement faster. I've found that Clumsy is the Smurf to pick in every stage because he's available from the start and because you can tumble cancel which I will get into below. Gutsy has a dash, but the movement is slower because there's no way to cancel the recovery period.
It is possible that other Smurfs' abilities could finish boss fights quicker, but I haven't tested this. Playing exclusively as Clumsy also means you don't have to navigate the "Select a Smurf" menus as much.

Tumble Cancelling: Both Clumsy's tumble and Gutsy's dash have a downside that they take a few frames to recover after the move. However you can cancel out of Clumsy's tumble by jumping. This makes the fastest movement, I've found, to be constant tumbling with a small hop at the end, unless a bigger jump is needed for vertical movement. I haven't found such a cancel for Gutsy's dash.

Midair Jumping: With Clumsy's tumble, as long as you touch the ground at some point during the tumble, if you tumble off a ledge you can jump from mid-air. This has a few uses.
We always want to avoid the tumble recovery frames as they slow us down, but we always want to be tumbling for the speed. When you have to go from high platform to a lower one you can start a tumble off the ledge, tumble cancel mid-air and start another tumble and hopefully be on the lower platform ready to cancel again.
Also it's just really good for recovering from bad jumps or spanning otherwise un-jumpable gaps.
