After "taking a chance" over and over again, I finally got a run that gave me the requisite number of stars quickly (although still one round longer than RedToon's record) where I followed through without making some egregious mistake like a death or forgetting which level to go to. The 45 second time bonus during the minigame was appreciated and it took away most of the pressure of accidentally dying.

I think that this time is certainly beatable, but that relies on some serious cooperation with the game's RNG to accomplish. Based on a review of my best splits, I think a time of 9:15 is realistically possible without requiring near gold-level splits on every level. It would require a 3 round "Take a Chance" and no awkward levels though.
