Having run this game recently (I'm playing on an EverDrive N8), I frequently experienced the game crashing on me. In all kinds of ways too, to say the least, haha!
As I found out today (with help from skateman222), apparently it had to do with firmware issues (possibly certain mappers). It turned out that as soon as I downgraded (to v1.16 in my case), it solved the problem. So I'm not sure if this was already known before, but for those running the game who have had similar issues, this might help.
This game has seen a bit more activity recently, with someone else getting a sub-16 time! Seeing that the current top times are really close to each other, and seem to closely approach what's possible right now, it brings up the following option: adding ms to the time.
There's one run I haven't verified yet, but that would make for a shared first place if I don't include it. If I do so, the standings would remain unchanged.
I'd like to hear from others before deciding. Do you have a preference for ms or no ms? Thanks in advance!
I decided to split the board into two separate sub-categories: for runs on emulator and those done on an actual Lynx. This is something I've been sitting on for a while, and after watching various runs, I found the performance between both to be too inconsistent for them to share the same category.
Just so you're aware of that option now being available when you submit. ;)
(If anyone else wants to chip in on this, let me know!)
In the game it's possible to warp from level 5-2 to 6-1 by doing a series of inputs that takes you to a fantasy zone. Up until now it hasn't been used in runs before, but since the info for it can be derived from hints in the manual, I decided to allow it from now on.
For those unfamiliar with how it works: in order to activate the warp you have to grab the last coconut on the ground just before the exit gem. While holding it, press Up, Down, L, Down, L, R, and R. In the fantasy zone, grab the rock. Make sure you don't destroy it!
Keep in mind you only have one chance to try it - in the case of a mistake you either take a death or continue on to 5-3 etc.
For those looking to run this game: I've updated the timing method to better reflect the in-game time. Since there is no input after starting a new game and prior to gaining control of the character, the run now starts as soon as you begin the first level (-14.60 seconds after starting the game). The run will end as the screen starts to fade to black, which removes 2 seconds as opposed to a full fade-out.
