RTA includes all the time from when you spawn in a new world to getting to the credits. IGT doesn't include loads and pauses. So you could technically speaking pause your game during a run and take a nap for 10 hours and come back and finish it. (though I highly doubt that the run gets verified).
Are you using the Sodium version with planar fogs option (it's in the unofficial tab)? This allows you to see a little farther with max FOV in the corners. This option is allowed.
I feel like this discussion about pausing is more a concern about the entertainment of speedrunning Minecraft. Is there any (dis)advantages of either timing method if everyone can use the same strats (even if one involves the abuse of pausing)? The biggest difference will be the skill level and entertainment from the runners and viewers.
I don't care which timing method will be used, as long as it is fair and square for everyone. But if we talk about entertainment, I'd prefer RTA-loads.
It's inconsistent at the moment in my opinion, and it's concerning for future WRs when the time gets harder and harder to beat, why'd you think fast if you can think longer with a short pause?. Zylenox got this ingame time added because he did the triangulation calculation in the pause, meaning it could have helped his run.
But fe666, also pauses multiple times to think (was even obvious when in the nether when his mouse was hovering some numbers in the f3 menu) and it also could have helped his run, but didn't got his time added.
Inconsistencies are the worst. Hope it'll be considered discussing about in the future.
