This is a trick for after the shark tank in the residence. It takes place in the hallway with the residence map and involves interrupting one cutscene with another and in between them doing a quick turn to start running down the hallway. The sequence of events happens like this:
-bee cutscene (with bees coming through the hole in the wall)
-Jill wanting to walk back (automatic)
-hitting the menu button before she moves back
-using the pesticide while in the menu
-right after exiting the menu by using the pesticide, do a quick turn
-after the quick turn run a little down the hallway as she sprays
I think this could save some time in running down the hallway but will also drain some life as a result of bees attacking.
Just an update on this. I timed it out last night and I think it would come out pretty much the same time if not more time to do this trick. Although, it's a little difficult to time out because it involves finding the correct doorway and hitting that door at the exact moment the bees die. :/
I've added the Gamecube and Wii runs to the HD boards here with their own respective platform variables. Two new platform variables have been introduced while I've edited the existing console one here to HD Console to represent the HD Remaster release to avoid confusion and maintain consistency across versions. Don't be confused by the new layout. All you need to know is that SD Console is for Gamecube and Wii only while emulator is for Dolphin (GC/Wii emulator), DIOS-MIOS and Nintendont (both are bootloaders for the Wii) only.
All existing runs have been successfully migrated from the original Resident Evil REmake leaderboard with only a total of 3 runs not being added. One for only showing the clear result while the other two runs had been deleted. If I missed anything please notify me or a moderator here!
The title of the game has now been changed from Resident Evil HD Remaster to Resident Evil REmake / HD along with the url to http://www.speedrun.com/remake_hd. I was considering leaving Remaster in the name, but it looks very tacky and I'm sure most people here will still recognize it regardless. I left the box art alone to help with that as well.
Anyway, thanks to everyone who participated in the discussion about this last month. Let me know what you think of the changes. :)
What do you think of having the Gamecube runs coexist on the HD boards, or having the two releases unified together? Most of the RE games or games in general have had their versions under one board. Granted, it might make things look messier, but I feel like it's redundant to have REmake and HD Remaster separated still when they're essentially the same game.
I used RE4's leaderboards as a reference for this idea that was suggested to me and we just happen to move to full-game last October. All the current versions for RE4 are organized by their respective releases and formats, so we just have to ensure REmake gets the same treatment here. Gamecube runs would still be preserved without being overlooked by the HD runs (ie. being thrown in a general console variable or something). The boards will look like this merged. http://imgur.com/a/6dBZk
Do you feel like the boards should be left as is, or do you think a merge would help keep things organized? :D
So, I edited the boards a bit with a few things:
-
Changed the description for the any% categories to simply complete the game as fast as possible instead of complete the game with any ending. Sounds less confusing and any ending implies that 100% counts as any% lol.
-
Added any% to NG/RS/IE category titles for the sake of consistency PogChamp
-
Listed Once Again as being acceptable as long as infinite weapons are not used and One Dangerous Zombie has not been unlocked under the rules.
Now, I almost forgot while editing that One Dangerous Zombie existed (thanks FurryWulfz for reminding me) so I made sure to add that. I know Lileya had an incident in the past with her run getting rejected for being played on Once Again which got resolved, but I feel it's okay to have your runs done on NG+ as long as you follow those two prerequisites. Once Again is mainly played for the cosmetic changes anyway and at best you'll lose a sec at the item box going for the FAS. :D
Also, in the process of updating runs for the boards so that the videos linked are up to date. Unfortunately, I might have to reject some due to the footage being lost :(
For those that are currently running the PC version of this game, please be aware that if you are not playing at 60 FPS/variable (caps at 120 FPS) with V-Sync off you will be at a disadvantage in terms of clear time. It is not mandatory that runs be submitted with these settings, but this topic was created in mind to disclose information surrounding the FPS affecting the game or not. It's well known amongst the top runners that aspects of the game are affected by the FPS setting resulting in a faster time. Although we haven't discussed about separating PC by FPS (which I do not recommend at all), the consensus has been that variable is faster than 60 FPS. If you haven't adjusted to variable yet I encourage that you do it now especially if you want to compete for quicker times.
Aspects affected by 60 FPS/Variable:
- faster text cycles and menus
- stairskating speeds achievable only on these settings
- instances of AI behavior changing with enemies
At the moment, there isn't any data available for reference on the FPS settings. I'm unable to conduct the research myself since my PC specs are insufficient to maintain the desirable FPS needed to properly test this. Whenever I get a better opportunity to record, I will get on board with it. :D
If there's anything I'm missing in regards to what the FPS affects let me know in this thread! Thank you and happy running. OpieOP
Refer to the picture below for video setting adjustment. Adjust only V-Sync to Off and FPS to 60/Variable. Everything else is user preference and it may help to lower the quality for people on low-mid end machines like myself.
Is there any difference in terms of how the game runs and would it be allowed to run this game on a Wii console instead? I was debating whether to find my GC or get a Wii for future participation on this platform. Any input would be good to know. Thanks!
