This thread was made to discuss what emulators can be used.
Current banned emulators:
- PSXFin (Does not run at the speed a normal console would. Load times and gameplay are much faster than normal.)
If you would like an emulator to be tested, post it down below.
Would it be okay to use the Mednafen PSX HW core in Retroarch? ePSXe is a real pain to get working with input plugins.
Edit: Here are some things I've observed with Retroarch's speed. The Beetle PSX HW core has a setting called "Increase CD loading speed". Here are some load times (in seconds) I observed while messing with that setting:
Time between selecting character and loading Construction Yard: 2x (native): 19.5, 19, 19 4x: 16, 16.1, 16.15 6x: 15.3, 15.2, 15.2 8x: 14.5, 14.6, 14.8 10x: 16.5, 15.5, 14.5 12x and 14x can potentially break the game's loading and softlock, with 14x doing that pretty much every time.
The 8x setting getting sub-PS2 (fast) loading times could be a point of contention. Perhaps the loading speed setting would also need to be disclosed if submitting a run with this core in Retroarch. Whatever the case, I would very much prefer to use Retroarch because it's more configurable for controls and graphics settings than any other PS1 emulator I've used.
With regards to in-game speed, the Beetle PSX HW core seems to emulate natural PS1 slowdowns normally with the GTE Overclock setting turned off (which prevents framerate drops when enabled).
I feel like it would be fine to use this emulator. How are the load times without the Increase CD loading speed settings enabled?
--Also Dovodx, hit me up on Twitch so I can message you a link to our discord. That way we can talk about some TM4 stuff :)
As far as I can tell, the 2x (native) setting is supposed to mimic the PS1's native loading times; that is as close to "off" as it gets, basically (it's the lowest setting). I have some recordings of runs I've done in retroarch with the setting on 6x, I could upload one of them so you could see for yourself, if that would help.
